250 1988 yz250 build

Got to agree! Over here in the UK in mint shape super low hour it would likely be £1800-£2000
Fully restored £3k as in every bearing, gasket, seal throuout the entire bike with brand new respoked rims with new rubber, full fork and shock service, all components removed inspected and replaced where necessary with new.
Full paint or powder coat throughout the frame and subframe and everything above would cost thousands and you will never see it all back again!
I spent £6000-£7000 on my 89 and sold it for £3500 so if you can get a profit from just a cosmetic overhaul do it!

Yeah that's probably what I'm looking at. Bikes where everything has been touched completely. I might still do it anyways just because. I'll still make a good profit and it would be a lot easier to sell. Also I just want this thing to look good as new!

Slim market for that bike. There are guys and gals that race vintage and that the market you would find paying top dollar. Only problem is they wont pay top dollar from a independent but a reputable shop. Not saying you are not doing it right, just saying that humans are stupid for the fact that they think the shop did and will do a better job. Just keep plugging away on for yourself. If the interest arises, then check AMA classified and local race board and see if any vintage races are in your area, load it up and go with a for sale sign on it. Good luck with the project.

Well there is barbers vintage fest that's really huge, with meets and races and pretty much everything. But that's already passed this year and won't come until next year. Also I tried to take the bike out for a ride just now and it took about 4 kicks to crank, would only idle with the choke on, and died on me once I stopped. I looked down and noticed the idle screw that I just bought had popped out!!! How does that happen??? I'm looking for it right now since I just paid $30 for it...

Did you lock it down with the lock nut? There is a ebay company bikerchickmx or ltd, that might sale a complete carb rebuild kit with all jets, needles, seal, o-rings.

EDIT: just checked, they do not sale it.

Yeah I put the screw a little more than halfway in and locked it in with the nut. I have no idea how it just comes out. The carb doesn't need rebuilt I already took it apart and did all that.

Hope you find it then. Wouldn't hurt to put light thread locker (green) on it let it dry, then put it in and lock it down with the nut.

I can't get over the tiny foot pegs.
How did we ride them with such small pegs?

Atleast my 85 yz125 has tiny pegs.
I should send you a pic of the stock ones on my 75 phantom. The first cz i rode had ones that were round, and were not spring loaded. steel rods with these little knobs on the ends. about 11 seconds into the first ride I knew why men like Paul Friederichs, Joel Robert, and Roger Decoster never seemed to have the soles of their feet below the pegs, for ANY reason.

I know those old school pegs. They used to be on ct70's more like dimpled pipe.

Ok so I just now spent a ton of money buying all new parts. All new plastics, new seat cover, new idle screw, and trying to decide which graphics to go with. Has anyone seen the 1988 yz250 with chesterfield graphics?! It's gotta be one of the cleanest bikes I've ever seen! I'm not sure if I should do that look or if I should go all OEM. any suggestions? This bike is going to look perfect. I'm about to strip it down to the frame now to get it powder coated.
