Nah, I've got a go pro and a digital camera... Something more for photography.
So you already have a point-and-shoot like this?

Next step up from the point & shoot is more than a couple hundred dollars though. The cheapest Nikon DSLR is $700.

Canon has a slightly cheaper ($500) entry level camera but I personally wouldn't get it.

However once you get into to the amateur photographer level you can usually find some pretty good deals on used equipment. Check out Ebay.

For example here's my current DX camera for $550.

A D80 for $260

Was just about to post something similar to what James said. If you already got a go pro and standard point and shoot digital camera, only place left to go up for more professional shots is a SLR. But SLR's usually run between $450-thousands. You can always get a good used one for cheap off craigslist though.

One thing I forgot is lenses. Most cameras only come with a "short" 18-55mm lens which doesn't give you much zoom/distance. I'll sell you my old 55-200mm VR lens for $150 plus shipping. This is the lens that I took most of the photos you've seen on.

Easy there hoss! One welfare check at a time .

I have a cheap Kodiak Digital camera. Doesn't take pictures very well at all. I'm affraid if i buy a cheaper 2 or 300 dollar digital camera i will kick my self in the arse for not buying a 4 or 500 dollar camera.

This. :thumb: I already kicked myself for not getting the D7000 instead of the D5100. :bonk:

The thing is that if you're looking to take decent action shots you need to move up to a DSLR, the couple hundred dollar point & shoots won't cut it.

Shewww... 770 for that D7000 ... Thats a little far out of my price range... I think....
I was talking about myself, the D7000 has the same image sensor as my current D5100 so you'd be fine with the D5100 (or even D3200). However the D7000 offers faster fps, higher shutter speed, faster flash sync speed, and a few other things that I could use.

Just get a newer point and shoot. nothing wrong there, and you don't look like a poser when using it.

He already has a point and shoot, a newer one won't really gain him anything.

He has a really bad point and shoot, and he can't afford a $700 dslr lolol

There are a lot more camera than have been mentioned here. Start looking at some reviews on the camera sites. There are plenty of them. There are two things that separate the cheapo point and shoot and "better" cameras. Those are the lenses and the sensor. Many people forget about the sensor. As far as I'm concerned it's as important as the lenses. With a large sensor you will not use the flash much at all.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what you are looking for. Then with your budget try to find what best fits your requirements.

Requirements are not always photographic in nature. For example when I ride I carry a camera that is expendable. I've destroyed a camera out riding before and I'm sure that I will do it again.

Don't remember telling him to get a $700 camera, I simply told him that that's where the DSLR's start at (new). I then linked him to some cheaper ($260) used DSLR's which are pretty much in the same price range as the top point and shoot cameras. :thumb:
