That's the best bet.
I bought the rest of the parts needed for engine work just now. Gonna do the bottom end and top end so it should run as good as it's gonna look. Also I bought a few more other small parts. I've bought everything I need for the bike now finally! Except the graphics kit of course because I'm still deciding and I'm gonna buy another spark plug for when this one goes out but other than that I think I'm done buying parts. I have about 30 boxes of parts coming in the mail haha but hopefully it's worth it once I get the bike back together.

No I don't have a manual. I use online manuals
Yeah. Most road maps aren't as well marked. Here I was doubting the wisdom of tearing down to restore it. I think the life expectancy in the piston could be plotted with the second hand. Lol. But the marks rub off!!
Are you printing them out and using them in the bird cage?
