As far as you never seen a tooth break on a sprocket. That tells me you never had stock sprockets on any of the bikes you own.

the only mileage stock sprockets get on my bikes are from the back of the truck rolled into the garage.

I believe the only time a sprocket tooth will fail is due to it being past it's useful life.
