Looks like a mid to late 80's motor. @Nighthawk016 might know why year.
Looks like suzuki introduced SAEC in 85, but I'm not sure on what motor. This is about as far as I'm going to go, it's been a good little history lesson.
One of those years they went back to a case Reed assembly I thought. A parts fiche would set us right. Or if @ossagp would take you and I off ignore he probably would know.

You're correct, it's an 87. Just bought it for $35. It threw a chain at one point but only ripped the case saver out. I'm washing it up currently
Got it washed up and the paint stripped. In the middle of disassembly now, need to get all the fluids out before some guy puts it in his man cave and ends up with brown carpet.
Never liked painted aluminum anyways.....always looks like shit to me.
If it was going in a bike I'd leave it alone, but I'm going to repaint it because the aluminum/magnesium has seen better days. It will be so cool white and Chevy orange to

sorry i missed this. I have 87 and 88 RM parts and just the crankcases look like that.
Is the head different on your 87?
yes it doesnt have the resonance chamber
87 & 88 rm125
