By all means do the test. :-). If you cranked it all the way over and a valve touched I am sure you will show a compression loss or hear an air loss. The same thing that usually shows up with a light.
Every time I have seen something where a valve touched a piston it bent at least slightly. If your valves were sealing good before that will let you know
