One Sticker Too Many

Tuesday, day 2, came with more great weather. It was Robs last day, and rain was coming in Wednesday, so it was decided to do the run South to Painted Gorge.

Tuesday 1st AM
NewYearsOW2011017.jpg

Coffee, and a fire is how I roll.
NewYearsOW2011018.jpg

My Bro got a new Michellin for the trip. Those were some tall knobbies.
NewYearsOW2011019.jpg

Sawyer fixing his loose headlight, with some well placed zip ties.
NewYearsOW2011020.jpg

TWS decided to stay back at camp since Travice was coming out, so Sawyer, Rob, Rolls, and myself, geared up at hit The Blu-Inn for some breakfast. In that 2.2 mile ride, I went down, and was left with this. :bonk:
NewYearsOW2011021.jpg

Thank God for duct tape. :smirk:
NewYearsOW2011022.jpg

NewYearsOW2011023.jpg

While we sitting waiting for our food, I saw a truck pull over, with a guy with a huge beard. One look to the back of the truck, and seeing the old XR350, and I just knew it was Travice. We waved him over, and all introduced ourselves.
NewYearsOW2011024.jpg

After the burrittos, we headed South. Well South of the Fish Creek bridge, we came across the forbidden zone.
NewYearsOW2011025.jpg

The group.
NewYearsOW2011026.jpg

To go around this area, is a long whooped out road. So what do you think we did?

NewYearsOW2011028.jpg

NewYearsOW2011027.jpg

Once clear of the "Danger Zone" :smirk:, we rode a little of the whoops, and made it to the PG entrance.
NewYearsOW2011030.jpg

NewYearsOW2011031.jpg

I'm sure you'll see this picture Rolls is taking. :P
NewYearsOW2011032.jpg

The star of the trip, we just didn't know it yet.
NewYearsOW2011029.jpg

To be continued...

Day 2 Cont.

After the break, we headed in, and up.
NewYearsOW2011033.jpg

If you've never been there, it's all Jeep road stuff, but the scenery is pretty bitchin.
NewYearsOW2011034.jpg

There are some pretty gnarly rock garden hill climbs, but Sawyer made me proud and cleared them with no problems.:thumb:
NewYearsOW2011035.jpg

NewYearsOW2011037.jpg

NewYearsOW2011038.jpg

Getting close to the top, and checking out the view. Not a cloud in the sky, and in the low 70's. I wonder how Spangler was?
NewYearsOW2011040.jpg

NewYearsOW2011041.jpg

NewYearsOW2011042.jpg

Once over the ridge, we hit the dead ends pretty quick.

NewYearsOW2011046.jpg

Coming back down, these guys cruised by.
NewYearsOW2011047.jpg

They ended up landing over where we cut through the Danger Zone. If they were looking for us, they weren't successful. :smirk:
NewYearsOW2011048.jpg

To be cont...

Day 2 Continued,

Once back to the bottom, we had a beer, and some snacks. Sawyer cracked his Pepsi, and took a bite of jerky from his vest and said, "This jerky tastes like carrots."
NewYearsOW2011052.jpg

After munching a piece down, we realized it was covered with mold.
NewYearsOW2011051.jpg

After the good laugh, we headed towards Superstition, wishing for tacos, but figuring it was too early in the week.

On the way up we stopped at the Indian Head we saw last year. The year took its toll on it, and doesn't look like anything now.
NewYearsOW2011054.jpg

This year.
NewYearsOW2011055.jpg

Last year.
100_1900.jpg

We got out of the hills, and started across Plaster City for Supes. When we hit the other bombing zone, these jets were making bombing dives, one after another. Pretty cool. :thumb:
NewYearsOW2011058.jpg

One of the ground markers for them.
NewYearsOW2011060.jpg

We made it to vendor row at Soupes, only to confirm no tacos were to be had. Hungry, and thirsty, we booked North. I took sweep, and about 5 miles South of home camp, I turned a corner and found this.
NewYearsOW2011061.jpg

To be cont...

Day 2 conclusion,

Sawyer was riding behind Rob and saw him rail the top, dry part of the berm. His attempt didn't come out as well.
NewYearsOW2011062.jpg

Rolls saw the whole thing. I should have got him a helmet cam for Xmas.
NewYearsOW2011063.jpg

The bike was a mess.
NewYearsOW2011064.jpg

NewYearsOW2011065.jpg

NewYearsOW2011071.jpg

Rob stopped just around the corner, but made it back to see the mud bath.
NewYearsOW2011066.jpg

There will be alot of shots of this coming.
NewYearsOW2011068.jpg

NewYearsOW2011069.jpg

NewYearsOW2011070.jpg

The entrance shot.
NewYearsOW2011072.jpg

Like a good Uncle, Rolls helped him clean up.
NewYearsOW2011073.jpg

I didn't want to touch him. :noidea:
NewYearsOW2011074.jpg

We slid :smirk: Sawyer back on his bike, and limped back to camp where we met Travs wife and kids. His little boy is going to be a riding machine. :hail:
The rest of the night Travice kept us entertained with some fire works.
NewYearsOW2011075.jpg

The only pictures that are left from that day, I can't post. All I'll say is, I'll share the story around the camp fire.
:lol::devil::P:smirk::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Great stuff...don't forget, we have the "campfire story" thread somewhere on here....:smirk:

Here are some pics that I took from Day 2.
At the entrance to PG, looking back from where we had come from.

Wednesday, day 3 came, and with it brought a little rain. We all slept in and took TWS's truck to the Blu-Inn for breakfast.

Camp shot.
NewYearsOW2011080.jpg

After grub, it started clearing, so TWS, Rolls, and I, rode to the AMPM for a extension cord,.

Ready to roll.
NewYearsOW2011083.jpg

Rest stop at the end of Campbell wash.
NewYearsOW2011084.jpg

TWS coming in.
NewYearsOW2011086.jpg

NewYearsOW2011087.jpg

With all the mini pumpkins around, Rolls threw one in the pond, and I caught it in mid air. :noidea:
NewYearsOW2011088.jpg

NewYearsOW2011089.jpg

TWS observing it all.
NewYearsOW2011090.jpg

From there it was a quick ride to the 22.
NewYearsOW2011094.jpg

As luck would have it, the Travertine was right across the way, so we stopped in for some Bloody Mary's.

NewYearsOW2011093.jpg

NewYearsOW2011096.jpg

They were pretty tastey.
NewYearsOW2011095.jpg

So tastey, we had 2.
NewYearsOW2011099.jpg

The shat faced self portrait. :busted:
NewYearsOW2011098.jpg

Looks like someone tagged their Ice Cream sign.
NewYearsOW2011100.jpg

Not enough day light for another round, it was time to go.
NewYearsOW2011103.jpg

NewYearsOW2011104.jpg

Notice the sign where I bought the cord.
NewYearsOW2011101.jpg

That sure does look like the DBA rider.
NewYearsOW2011102.jpg

Pushing the end of the day, we saddled up and headed home.

Waiting for Rolls at Arroyo Salado and Pole Line.
NewYearsOW2011105.jpg

NewYearsOW2011106.jpg

Not being allowed to go on Pole Line, we did washes, to trails, to washes again, all the way back. Following are random shots of the ride home.

A close to another great day.

Next up, Day 4.

Thursday, Day 4

There was no more rain for the trip, but the temps stayed on the colder side (lower 60's, sorry Rock :busted:), so instead of riding early, I attempted to clean up the 250. I thought if it was ready to ride (radiator clear) Sawyer would overcome the pain of his jambed thumb, and putt around.

NewYearsOW2011118.jpg

NewYearsOW2011120.jpg

NewYearsOW2011121.jpg

Thanks to all the cooler meltings, it came out pretty good. :thumb:

Also doing a little PM work, is Rolls with his break in oil change.
NewYearsOW2011127.jpg

NewYearsOW2011126.jpg

After all the wrenching, breakfast was cooked.

Chorizo

The finished product
NewYearsOW2011131.jpg

Even with a ready to roll bike, Sawyer was done for the trip.:foul:
Babes didn't mind though.
NewYearsOW2011124.jpg

NewYearsOW2011123.jpg

With a half a day left, Me-n-my-Bro went looking for some tight stuff.
NewYearsOW2011135.jpg

I think we may have found it.
NewYearsOW2011136.jpg

NewYearsOW2011137.jpg

More of day 4 to come...

Day 4 Continued

More of the slot.

NewYearsOW2011149.jpg

Here comes Rolls.
NewYearsOW2011152.jpg

NewYearsOW2011151.jpg

Once we got our asses kicked in the slot, we hit the Split Mountain store.
NewYearsOW2011154.jpg

NewYearsOW2011155.jpg

From there, it was across the street for a couple refreshments.
NewYearsOW2011156.jpg

NewYearsOW2011157.jpg

There was a cool Lab hanging out in there.
NewYearsOW2011158.jpg

Shot of the inside. Alot of the dollar bills are gone now, after having to redo the ceiling. There's still more then a few thousand on the walls.
NewYearsOW2011159.jpg

Before we could get round 3 in, a crowd came in, so we packed it up, and rode back to camp. It was only about a 30 mile day, but 5 of those really kicked my ass.:thumb:

Next up, Friday, Day 5.
