I started second guessing myself after I bought them, what's the disadvantage to using a rubber washer? It should be a hard plastic, or even made out of copper, but since it's on a green bike, I really don't care.

You cannot get a solid seal with the rubber washer. Go to get a copper one or head to the shop and hit the mechanic up in the back for one.they can squish out and still leak.
honda uses a vinyl seal ring.Never seen anything but copper.
