[Feb 2, 2013] REZRIDE 2013 (LANDERS, CA 92285)

I am going to hook up my GPS and drop bread crumbs. That is the best way to get back to the start and NO, I do not know the area. If that stupid buddy of mine  wouldn't of gone out and hurt himself :cripple: we could have had a great ride. Or maybe I should take the blame for canceling on him and not hitting Copper Rainbow on Monday again. :banghead: :crash: Either way I have Man trip on MLK and this Rez thing planed for the next couple weeks.

Also, Rez...When you see this tomorrow morning 01-04, are we doing lunch Wednesday 01-09-2013? 530? You are welcome to join...

Wow! Lots going on around here. So sorry to hear about Rolls and Timo. Seems lately in the last 6 months I too have been feeling a little "off" riding, and overall I have been dumping it and crashing more. I don feel so dialed in like I used to. At Ocotillo over the holiday I was riding tentative. I was feeling kind of paranoid about colliding with people or slamming onto the ground. Perhaps it is because Im getting older, feeling out of shape and riding less dirt compared to a couple of years ago, who knows? All I know is I prefer rides that arnt going to kick my ass to pieces. I prefer just the right amount of challenge, if at all lately. Perhaps in the back of my mind Im thinking I just cant afford to get hurt. I got very lucky over Thanksgiving with a minor headbang and a few fractured ribs. Im still way into riding both dirt and street but, just a little less focused on it like I used to be. Over New Year's I could care less if we rode. I wasnt "feeling it."

Whatever you decide Rez, it's all good. Life doesnt have to be all about dirt bikes. I often ask myself what else can I do that gives me as much pleasure but less risk and money? I still havent thought what that is yet but I plan on doing more "other" things overall in 2013. Maybe more kyaking, hiking, fishing, tennis, golf, beach days, swimming, skating, geocaching, volunteering, cooking more often, home improvement projects I've blown off. Perhaps make some things I always thought would be fun to make like a foutain, lamp, or mobile. And also more quality time with family. Now that I just made this list, I better get to it! :spin:

I still hope to go to the Rez however, I had planned on attending the Hammer event and didnt realize it was THAT weekend. Why dont we ride over to watch the start of the motos and then go park near Chocolate Mt. or whatever ravine that they will climb up to watch. I think it was on a Friday last year, but it sure was some really great spectating. Sitting on the rocks watching the riders come through and just a stones throw from you is great! You pack a backpack with snacks and beverages and kick back for a couple of hours there. The Hammers are also fun to watch. I really want to see both events. It's free to spectate and you can ride right to it. just an option and all kinds of riding right there as long as were not on the course. On Sunday Hardcore riders could go do an ass kicking torture ride if they wanted to.
So anyhow...it's good to catch up, and I have some catching up to do here.
Happy New Year to you all:cheers:

Pappy & Harriets, Willy Boy(Wilderness Area, outlaws only) Desert Rat wash, the C130(that's probably gone), Galaway to Bess, there's alot of great riding, even if you don't know where you are going.:trhumb:

Point me in the direction and I "should" be able to find it...

Pappy and Harriets... Joshua Tree to ??? to get to RSC... once up there I know we have to go thru a residential area and south from there.. to much of a chance of getting .......... lost!

Willy Boys... that's directly behind the REZ, pretty sure how to get there but haven't been on it for ages... I remember one gnarly hill to climb. Like you said, "wilderness area".

Desert rat wash???? is this on the north side of the highway in the valley?

My main thing is I know where the "ROADS" are but I don't want to do just roads...

SURE... 11:30 you drive, I buy... unless Dave shows up then he gets to buy! :smirk:

from boone rd i could prolly get us to the petroglyphs but other then that i dont know shit about the area other then that.

Keep in mind that Boone road/means DL will be pretty much closed off to "thru traffic" due to the KOH event going on the entire week. They WILL be charging an entree fee to get to Means so that means we need to avoid Boone road. I know how to get around it no problem... skirt the hills to the west of the DL over the Melville dunes, across melville DL and around another row of hills then you are north of Means. Not sure when they will be prerunning the course however I know that no matter where we ride we WILL cross the course at some point.

Also that Sunday (Feb 3) will be the KOM (King Of The Motos) race...

yea i dont know then. id have to get out there and see with my eyes :P dont count on me. anyhow stopping by and watching the KotM would be sweet. and really there is no way to just ride up to the lakebed? they really get it all locked down and make you pay? i find that some BS and i bet there is a way. what they gonna say to you? you cant be here on BLM land ... well sorry sir but the law says otherwise.

High SUN... yes, what you are feeling is totaly me but I AM old... and fraaageeeelay (that's Italian for breakable). The MOTOS race this year is the Sunday when we'll be out there, the KOH race is still on the following Friday. The area you're thinking was close, it's Chocolate Thunder... that's where we've been hanging around the last couple years. My friends son is racing the Any Mans Challenge on Thursday which is (I think) on the same course but in less modified vehicles to allow for "any man" to enter. Because of my lack of vacation time right now I don't know what I'll have saed by then.. If possible I want to be out there Sat/Sun/Mon come home then go back for Thurs/Fri/Sat...

I dont think they can charge you UNLESS you are going to Hammer Town. You just say your riding out there and I THINK they will let you go on thru. We parked just before the spot they were taking money at. We told them we were riding the dez and they let us through no problem. I really do want to check out the moto event. I want to check out both but Im not going to stick around for days to see both or drive all the way back out to the desert just for the KOH. So whomever wants to ride over to check out the KOM event on Sunday Im game.

High Rez,

Chocolate Thunder closed? When did it close? Who closed it? That does not seem right. Im pretty sure we can still ride over there to watch with no problem. Worse case snerio carry a little cash just in case.

No idea how they patrol/control it... you get a wrist band when you enter... I think it's mainly for those who stop and wonder through the vensor area... they check you at that entrance, otherwise if you just go to designated "crawling" areas and watch there's no control due to the number of people there. Getting arond it is easy for that matter and more fun.. up and over the hills or around them and avoid ALL that mess.

It was CLOSE not closed... :thumb:

So what's the plan?
Plan is..... Sat/Feb 2 & Sun/Feb 3 for me as of right now... I'm probably going up early Sat morning to avoid Friday night traffic then again, all depends on the moment. As mentioned before, I will have a friend and his 2 sons as well, they're racing in the KOH... "Any Man's Challenge" on Thursday.

My plan was arrive early Friday for a big loop up through Afton and back. Saturday ride with the group, destination open. Sunday was going to be the KOM, maybe some Willy Boy Sunday night, and come home Monday.
