Carbon Fiber Helmets

The hard shell is in most cases not what saves your noggin. It's the foam crushing under the impact forces that keeps your skull from cracking. That's why you need to replace the helmet after a good impact. It's a one time thing for that foam. It does not spring back.
 
That is of concern to me and how well a really light helmet could have enough impact damping to be effective. You really wonder what the difference is in a hard impact between the mid price and the high priced ones. The Airoh I will probably buy is around 5.
