Well, you are prolly gonna have to throw a few hundred at it to get it at riding condition. You don't want to be left out on the trails. New tires, go over everything. New oil, filter, maybe a topend rebuild
Any time you buy a used bike, especially one that has been used as you described you need to put some $$ into it to get it up to par. It will treat you right if you treat it right. Its a 99, mines a 01 RM250. I am envy of all the users that have real new bikes but I trust my bike to take me anywhere I need it go and its way paid for. I say go for it if you got the bug

Well....CRAP! Guy sold it before I could get to him. I had set it up to meet him tonight and he said cousin showed up with $800 earlier today. Back to the drawing board aka craigslist.
However before I signed up on the website to find out your opinions I did find a 2007 DRZ 125 for my ten year old. Its a nice bike. Perfect for him. Seller wanted $900...I got it for $700.

You could also do this. If you what bike you are interested in buy. Go to BikeFinds. Just google a bike for sale. Like Honda CR125 forsale. then click on bikefinds.com. You will see a list of that bike that are forsale. If any. Sometimes you will find more on there than craigslist. It shows craigslist and ebay bikes for sale.
It's a 99 so the bike likely needs some love. Most of the work is fairly straight forward. Before you start working on it get a manual. This is critical if you are not an experienced mechanic. Read it and learn it before you actually work on it. You need at least some tools, but not a lot. Some kind of torque wrench is a very good idea because it's real easy to over torque. I still do that from time to time.
Since it's a 125 it basically for sure needs a set of rings. I would plan on going over the entire bike in the first year or so. Replace or at least check/clean all the bearings in the wheels steering stem and rear suspension.

Never fear! I have another craigslist find! RM125Y! $1000! Ride ready! Meeting him tomorrow night to check it out. However, I will take a look at bikefinds.com.
What year is it?
2000. Lots of extras and aftermarket. Belongs to military mechanic. Top end redone every 20 hrs. Over $1800 in rebuild. Moving and needs to get rid of it.

I don't know gang...I'm beginning to think I'm not suppose to get a bike. I drove 50 miles to get this one and when I got there it wouldn't run. Gas had WAY too much oil in it. Several attested that it would start on second kick a few days earlier but it smoked like a freight train bc of the gas and would eventually foul the plug after a few seconds. So I came home with an empty truck...again.
