He actually has really good throttle control

I wouldnt put him in a heavy traffic environment tho..

In most cases 125's are actually slightly taller than 250's.

Let him progress slowly. I know its all about throttle control, but I think going from an 85cc bike to a 250 bike is a bit much. But I dont know what his riding skill is either. However if his father thought it was a good idea he would make it happen.

I think he should go 125. 125's are great for teaching how to ride. If your not riding right or using the right technique you'll be slow, so in a way 125's force the rider to ride right or just be a slow poke...

Thats why i ride a 200, I probably dont have the skills to ride a 125 as fast :smirk:

Thats what I would say. I think changing requires a learning curve. I know if I switch to the 2 stroke I will have to ride a little different.

All blathering aside its all just a matter of what you (or him in this case) is most comfortable with, you can sit here and argue about which one has the best traits all day long, but in the end, its a matter of rider preference, I never could get comfortable with the way a 2t rides, alot of people can't get used to weight or engine braking on a 4t (I actually like the latter)
Its riders preference, just keep in mind (as you already know) a completely destroyed 4t will cost a lot more to rebuild than a 2t, but if you take care of it you won't have such a catastrophe.
