South Geek Slide Molested?

Damn, had to pack my wang up and go home...

Jerry Counts will not lose on second of sleep over that thread, but maybe some of his knee-jerk, penny-ante apologists will think twice before blindly backing someones play because (in their mind) they are beyond reproach. There seems to be a lot of "holier-than-thou" dementia floating around some of our dirt-bike elders lately, and oddly enough they all seem to march under the banner of the FOJ.

Good news however is that I'm about 95% sure that Rack and a few others that have cast doubt on the first picture Jerry posted are correct. I don't believe the first photo is of the step. I think Jerry wanted to boast about all the back-breaking work he had done, so he floated in a dummy photo to impress the cronies. Too bad it back-fired!!

The "before" and "after" photos he posted are largely the same except for perhaps smoothing out the very top edge of the slide. Even the before and after videos look almost identical, but I guess I'll never be able to bring it up on district and/or debate it further because the thread has been locked. Oh well...

The slide was assaulted, but I think the damage was kept to a minimum. I decree that "THE GEEK SLIDE LIVES"!

As long a we can keep idiots like Jerry from destroying it, it'll continue to provide years of blooper videos!

Jerry's ego got the better of him and it bit him in the ass!
 I am sure a few rides up or down it can get back to a nice state again. Now we just need to get Geek out there..

I think Keith saw the writing on the wall after reading through the TT thread. My fault for posting it there in the first place… It was turning into an us versus them flame war pitting district guys against TT guys and dual sporters against off roaders and Keith didn't want that kind of shit spilling over onto the district forum. Can't say I blame him, too many people just didn't get the big picture.

I was amazed to see Keith encourage people to go on one of Jerry's dual sport rides. I had actually considered signing up for one of his rides in the past but now I think i'll pass. I won't consider supporting somebody that pulls this kind of blatant BS...

Well the first pic is definitely NOT the geek slide.

Have you tried today? Jeff and Carl and a few others got their admin permission and were able to post!

Honestly, if you just started a thread in the dual sport section entitled 'an opportunity missed' or something along those lines and told the story of team salmon (or whatever it is you guys have going on) and how year after year people of been tested and indoctrinated into the official club by making it up the geek slide...

Once you give it a name, put a face on it, and tell its story it takes on a whole new life. A lot of the apologists would be furious if someone hacked up their favorite obstacle and I think maybe they're starting to realize that…

So why post it, why fan the flames?

Honestly I think Jerry was trying to rub peoples noses in it - trying to let district know that they had no power over him and he was free to do as he pleased. But honestly I have no idea, it was a stupid thing to do regardless of his reasons..

Hey all,

My name is Roger (Strega) and I'm the GPS Coordinator for District 37. I guess that puts me on the 'Board' but I'm not as involved as the others. I'm there to help out with all things GPS related and getting tracks together for the BLM, rides, etc. I'm not here to speak on the behalf of D37 but I wanted to pass along some information to clear any questions people may have.

Jerry Counts (the guy who did that 'trail maintenance') does NOT speak for District 37 in any way, shape, or form. Jerry used to be a ride promoter for D37 but he was dismissed a year ago for not complying with D37 protocol. Jerry still runs his own rides but they are not supported by District 37. Keith, the President of D37, is a good guy and works hard for dual-sport and doesn't condone the actions of Jerry.

Please understand that this is one man, doing these things of his own volition, on his own without support from D37.

Jerry has done a lot for dual-sport over the years, and he typically has the best interest of riders in mind, I just don't think he thought this one through before he did it.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I hope that answers some questions.
