A little something I do to relieve stress. (Flight Simulator)

i dont like to consider sims a game but really it is a game genre.

some sims are way more realistic then others tho. MS flight sims are one of the almost as real as it gets sims.

Well I guess black ops can used a simulation if you look at it that way or even MX vs ATV since these are real too, but I sure hope my son playing black ops doesn't see this a simulation  see it however you want it still just sitting in front of a screen playing a video game is how I will see it. :thumb:

EDIT: now if you're in some sort of cockpit that looks and moves and reacts to situations that are presented to you by some other form or another then that can be called a simulator.

not even close. Black ops and MX vs ATV are not even close to real.

and sure anyone can see anything the way they want... if they are living in thier own world. come on back to reality and games have genres FPS, RPG, SIM and so on and so on.

im with james on this one. Simulations are not really games. It can be played as a game but its meant to be used as a simulation of something that is real.
 Thanks Trav. :thumb:

BTW I did a daylight flight from LAX to Fresno (FAT), some pretty nice scenery/terrain. Had some turbulence from the mountains though.

So siting in front of a computer screen with a joystick in your hand is close to really flying a 747  come on now...who needs the reality check here. I am pretty sure my Wii controller with gun is just as close then LMAO

actually yes it is. its exactly like flying a 747 minus the physical aspects of it... vibrations and G forces. You can actually learn to fly a plane with these sims. In fact some of the schools actually use this exact same game james is playing.

also i dont think you understand the complexity of the joysticks.... nothing like a Wii... these joysticks are made specifically for airplane sims.

dont know if its still in that newer version but there was a small airport in Torry pines thats near the famous golf course. its only smaller planes i think but its a fun one to take off and land on.

Also do they still have thousands of runways around the world? even the little dirt ones in the jungles? The one i use to play did and i always had a blast trying to land on those.

 Seriously? Not even going to comment.

That's the thing, it has a virtual (3D) cockpit that you look around in and majority of the buttons work just like in real life. For example you can hope into a dead (no power) plane and you have to go through the right starting sequence to fire up the engines (it takes more than 2 minutes :P).

The thing with FS X is that you can make it as "arcady" as you want or you can fly it as if it were the real thing.

Here's a video that you can see how the 3D/virtual cockpit looks like (it's a foreign language though).

ehhhhhh i have to second this. I never played video games, and never enjoyed them either. I understand the diffrence 100% but I still don't think you could use the simulator then go out and fly a 747.

yea i never went full real. With those the flight times are real as well. So for me to fly to vegas if i didnt set the auto stuff it would really take me 2 hours or so to get there.

not a 747 but a sesna you definitly could.

ohh and BTW you do know that the fuck sticks that did 911 also used the MS FS game?

You must not have seen what the Airbus A380's fly with in real life, a joystick. :smirk:

 Yup, after landing at Fresno I figured I still had time to fly out to Ridecrest. Only I didn't realize that their runway is only 3k ft and dirt/sand. So I elected to fly over the White something or another airport. The turbulence and no ILS made it a tricky landing, it's been awhile since I'd done a visual only approach and landing.
