The Guns Thread

I figured I'd start a thread on guns since quite a few DBA'ers are gun enthusiasts.
Also, we can talk hunting too! That's right, Buck.

I'll start out. Last weekend I got a new Remington 700 ADL in .243. It's a great gun overall and I'm excited to take it hunting. Shoots pretty dag-on good using 100 grain Core-Lokts. Sighting in the scope this weekend maybe.

The other gun is my brother's new Remington 870 20 gauge.

Yeehaw! Let's get to some gun talkin'!

Back before I was big into riding I was a big time gun enthusiast. Still have the guns just don't have the time. What ever happened to ammo prices? I used to be able to get all the military surplus ammo I could shoot for about 10 cents a round. Those days are log gone that's for sure.

Don't get me started! It's hunting season!

Don't get me started! :thumb: I just scoped and sighted a 18" bbl single shot .223 that is no bigger and lighter than a Red Ryder BB gun yet I shot ....no shit...consistant 3/8" groups 1" high at 100 yards! That is just outstanding for any gun let alone one I will carry on my back on a sling riding around on my XR finding things that need bullets!

I also shot 1/4" 5 shot groups with my .17 HMR at 100 yards dead on! I could cover all 5 shots with a dime!

Together, they are great target and critter guns that are cheap to shoot and satisfying in their supreme accuracy! I already garnered some meat for the pot with them this past weekend! :thumb:

I live in southern california. Enough said. :foul:

Bummer for you! Really! I ride around with a rat's ass SKS and a 50 round clip on a sling on my back because I just KNOW I will encounter things that need bullets! Not game, but just things you'd like to sling some lead at for no good reason! (legally and not damaging any property....I'm good for that!) Shit! Nobody would ever see or hear it anyway! Mainly just trying long range shots at cattails in strip mine lakes! Great fun!

Damn! Ya, last time I did that here ( with a bbgun too ) , cops got a 415 call to my house.

hey Riley, I looked at the very same gun for my son..It seems like a nice gun but the reviews I read were not that great. I read that alot of people had trouble with the bolt action breaking. I called a gun shop asking if he had one in stock and he told me not to buy it because he was so covered up with warranty repairs on the bolt action. Just be careful with it and don't abuse it. I ended up getting him the Marlin .243 nice gun for about the same price minus the scope. Just FYI good luck.:thumb:

Yeah, I wish the prices were still like that. My local shop had a sale on Remington Core-Lokts 20 rounds for $17.99. So I'm shooting around $1 a round. When those go off sale, I'm going to have to switch to those cheap Federals for $17.99 for my play shooting. Then use the Core-Lokts for actual hunting.

Very nice! I might have to check out a new .22 or .17 for some wabbit hunting. Our Marlin .22 is pretty sucky. And then when I get a coon hound and train it, I'll need that gun for the coons.

I'll probably get a .22 so it'll be cheaper to shoot. How are the prices for ammo with the .17 HMR?

Thanks! I really like it. I haven't read anything about the bolt action breaking. It sounds odd for a 700 to go off the line with a malfunction that common. I like the bolt, it feels pretty smooth and does it's job. But it might break on me in a few days. :P

Are any of yall interested in handguns? I've never shot one and we don't have one, but I'm getting more and more interested.

I read when reserching for a gun for my boy that they had a bunch of them breaking. I don't how true it is but when I called a dealer that sells them and he told me to stay away from them..then I take his word for it. You might never have any issue and I hope you don't.

My handgun to rifle ratio is 2 to 1, so yeah I like handguns. :thumb: There's a lot of laws regarding handguns though and they vary state to state, so make sure you read up on those before you get one. Plus the consequences are generally higher if you do something stupid. Here's some info on if you ever decide to carry, however you still have a bunch of years to go before you can. http://www.usacarry.com/virginia_concealed_carry_permit_information.html

My favorite handgun? Glock 27 w/night sights, standard mag is 9 +1 and my spare is a 15 round. People say that you'll either love or hate the feel of a Glock, thankfully it fits me perfectly. :rocker: They're very easy to disassemble and clean, if you want to that is, it's a Glock for crying out loud. Also the lack of an external safety is a plus IMO.:thumb:

My handgun to rifle ratio is 1 to 5. I favor the rifles. As a marksman in the military I just loved the idea of shooting something from far away and it never knowing where it came from. I do however have my fun with pistols. I have an old BP Colt 45 that I call the hand cannon. I like to load it hot and shoot at night. Shoots gigantic flames out the barrel. One of my favorite rifles is a 1892 Winchester 38/40 lever action rifle handed down the generations. It still shoot perfectly, has the octagon barrel and the antler sights. We call it "Magic".

This is my favorite of all though. My dad and I built that when I got out of the military 10 years ago.
