im 27 5’10 220lbs. Looking for a bike to ride and was wondering what y’all thought I should get for a first bike.

Question:
Where do you live?
What kind of riding will you be doing?
Do you have friends that ride?
Have you ever ridden before and if so be detailed in explaining the experience.
Do you have a budget?
What are your mechanical skills?

I live in west Texas. Closest track is about an hour away from me, but there are riding trails close. I’m wanting to find a bike for to ride a track more than to trail ride. I have pretty much no riding experience. Most of my family rides. My budget is around 7 grand and I work on wind turbines as a mechanic so mechanical experience is there.

Your first bike should fall well short of 7k.
There are lots of yz250f for sale ‘10-‘14 for 2,300-3,000 that’s where I would send you. Reliable motor, good resale if you find you don’t like riding (weird I know, but it happens):poke:
Pick one that has a maint history you can document, or just looks super clean and owned by someone who appears cognizant and capable. Power isn’t too much to scare you, but you can use it easily and pull you around without a struggle. Don’t ride without helmet and moto boots even cheap ones are better than no ankle protection.
Good luck!

Oh I missed “most of my family rides”
sound like your knowledge base and test ride right there :noidea:

I’m with 2wheels. Spend a day with cousins doing some field riding or light trails. In my opinion a YZ 250 2 stroke may be a great bike for you. Fast and torqey but easy to maintain. You can get a mint condition used one for around 3-4K. Good luck.

buzzzzz

I rode yz250’s for YEARS and unless you like lightswitch power forget it. One way to ride those is expert level, otherwise your going to blubber it or loop it. Beginners and old people need a predictable “roll on” type powerband that isn’t going to whiskey throttle you into the bushes.
Fight the terrain not the bike. You know that feeling when you're calmly walking along, and a bee lands on your face? YZ250

Listen you’ll never hear me say that a YZ 250 isn’t a great bike, but yet you’re suggesting that a beginner with zero experience get a YZ 250? That’s like saying for your first car a 700hp mustang should do nicely.
