125 2001 YZ125

Try bump starting it without the clutch cable connected to the clutch arm, run it thei the gears.If it still doesn’t hook up, then we can worry about what’s inside the clutch cover.

The basket looks okay, if it was me, and it was apart to the point it is now, I would;

Go with Mikey's idea first, and check the out put shaft by putting it in gear, hold the inner basket and see if you can turn the sprocket.
Then I would measure the plates with a MAGA caliper.
Then I would verify routing of the clutch cable.
Then pull the cable off and test by hand the stroke, and see if there are frays or rough spots in the pull.
If still no results, go with Racks method and invest in a dealership support program.

turf Fk the lever you can ride all day without that.
there’s 5 items making this equation. Inner, outer, discs, plate and springs.
One of those 5 or a combination of each is your problem.

Okay, let me get some coffee in me and I'll go slap it back together and do all of the above recommended steps.

Yeah thats cheap. It's the $175.00 outer basket I'd like to avoid buying if I can.
I'll report back later this afternoon.
Thanks!

Output shaft is good, cannot hold inner hub when turning the rear wheel.
Springs are within spec
Fibers are within spec
Didn't measure plates for warpage cuz I dont have a flat surface to start from

Put it back together and clutch arm is WAY to easy to move, normally I use a channel lock, but can almost breathe on it to make it move, and the spring flips out of position. Gonna rip the cover back off...

I got it figured out - a comedy of errors as they say.

So heres the whole story;
When the kiddo crashed he bent the clutch lever, and stripped out the shift lever, back in April. Then it got friggin hot and everything stopped for 6 months.
So 2 weeks ago or so I ordered both new levers. Shift lever went on fine, but the clutch lever didn't fit my perch, so I found something lying around that sorta fit, installed it, and that was the problem.
Cable was too tight.
Then the aforementioned situation.
It had a lot to do with me not turning a wrench for 6 months, and when I put it back together a couple hours ago, when the clutch arm was too easy to move, it was because I didn't remove the shaft from the cover. Once I read the manual, I figured it out. Crazy huh?

So now I'm ordering the correct perch, along with the valve shims for the kx250, and by next weekend I hope to have the yz125, the kx250, and my yz250 going since I just got the replate and cylinder back for it.

One way or another, I'm going to the track next weekend.

But after spending 3 hours on a buddies KTM 125 last weekend, I think I'll be taking the kiddos YZ125.

Thanks again for y'alls help!

Funny when you don’t tell the whole story you get a bunch of speculation without a fix. Had we known you changed the lever, even lovesdick might have figured it out. Btw, where has that little bitch gone?

:ride: I was beginning to think that you had a stuck yet mobile push rod for a moment :poke::moon::smirk:
Dude, its funny you mention that. When I removed the cover the last time, I saw the empty hole and thought...I even grabbed a flashlight and took a look down it, until I realized...

I get busy man, sorry. Plus I havent spent more than 12 minutes in the garage in 6 months. I'm uncurrent! That and I buy things that dont fix problems in 2-3 week intervals. I try to keep up with the book-keeping but hey gimme a break, I gotta teenager.
He's lurking with @cyx7@wtf!
