2 Stroke 1998 CR80R

A 125 will teach a rider to carry speed everywhere.
It's funny you mention this. The kid at work and I we're talking this morning and I mentioned how I noticed that the 4-stroke guys could go through the turns and come out of them rather slowly, and then just blip the throttle right before the jump to make it over, whereas I didn't have the speed for the jump unless I came out of the corner with it.
I guess for me (and I assume everyone else), that is hows it's done on a 2-stroke.
Which is another reason I think I want to get the WR.
I dont need to be haulin ass around the turns, I just want to hit the jumps and not come up short and kill myself, and make it to work on Monday.

That's a skill set not the bike. Coming up short is rider error not bike error. As you can see by the monster cup race in October, 85's have enough power to clear the same jumps as a 450.
Yes, vets made the 450's popular by couching it through the local track and romping on the throttle out of turns and on the face of jumps. I can do the same thing on my rm250 but it's not the right way to ride or race. Watch a pro national race. They will run WOT into the turn and back out of it.
If your son wants to race moto then get him a 125 so he can learn to use the clutch and control high speed power. If he wants to cruise the pines and sand washes then go get him a wr.

He wants to do both.
I need more motorcycles :bonk::banana:.

At which point you need to make him pick one.
Throw a heavy flywheel weight on that Yz250 for him to ride in the trees and that will free up you to get him a 125 to race and a new 450 for you to couch ride the mx track. :smirk:

You can do both on the YZ250. I agree on the fly wheel weight, but are you riding in the trees? I rode mine in the dez mainly and ran a 14/46 gearing. When on the track or trees, I put the 50 back on.

Now I am a bike whore and just have bikes for everything....:smirk:

I am liking that idea! Thanks Mike.
I am still considering that 02 WR426 though, it ain't sold yet.
Just dont like the 1800 asking price...

I like whores!
And have no problem being one myself :).
In fact, I just started an LLC with the kiddo so we can keep doing this whoring around thing.
He's starting to get it, and I need to write things off.
Hopefully he will turn it into something long after I'm gone.

KBB says 1200 trade, and 1800 in excellent condition at the dealer.
I'm more interested in the 1200, but I dont think he'll drop 600.
Not yet anyway...
If you got 12 cash, I'd call him and tell him that is my price. If it has been sitting there for a while and no offers on it, then he may move.

I thought of that, but I haven't even looked at the bike yet.
I feel like I should at least show up first, and then show some cash and make an offer.
Some guys are open to lowball offers over text messages, which I have used in the past to get me off the couch (and I state that up-front) but he doesn't seem to be like that. We've been texting for 2-3 days now, so he knows I'm interested...
