I recall it a little differently, in that Honda didn't agree with the cc advantage given to some designs. If I am not mistaken they were not the only mfr's to disagree.
Honda was pulling out of quite a bit of racing at the time. All based on economics and what people wanted to buy.
There was a little more to it than that. Yeah yammi and a couple others had a big fit too but it was in the rule books. Honda was always the one throwing it's wieght around. The ducatis and the triumph triples have some really long legs for pulling distance on the long banks.
They knew what they were doing when they put those bikes together.
