I recall it a little differently, in that Honda didn't agree with the cc advantage given to some designs. If I am not mistaken they were not the only mfr's to disagree.

Honda was pulling out of quite a bit of racing at the time. All based on economics and what people wanted to buy.

There was a little more to it than that. Yeah yammi and a couple others had a big fit too but it was in the rule books. Honda was always the one throwing it's wieght around. The ducatis and the triumph triples have some really long legs for pulling distance on the long banks.
They knew what they were doing when they put those bikes together.

I would just want to know who did the 285 kit. everyone i know that has gone over 2mm has been unhappy with it unless the stock porting was redone and it was balanced.

its a maxrpms kit, I went to their website and you have to send them the head for modification.

This guy just emailed me back, this is the main bike I was interested in, it looks a little rough around the edges but the white shrouds and 4 gallon tank aren't helping it either.

I know Rick Peterson of the original RPM and have a very good feeling for his products. As you know boring one retards the timing and of course 5 mm will add some piston weight. All can be dealt with and if they are using his porting arrangements I would feel good in making a long drive to test one priced right.

At this point (shhhhhh) I'd actually prefer 2 stroke, in March I intend to scratch something off my bucket list, a friend (on a yz250) and I plan on attempting to ride 5 miles of hell in Moab.

I like moab, the only parts I have seen were more like a little slice of hard rock heaven though. I think I have a grand total of 3 days on dirt there.

Not just over the rise for me to get to though.

One of the reasons I like living where I do, I can be in the rockies, moab, or mexico without too much hassle.
My dad rode motorcycles and all the fun stuff I do, he'll even admit thats why he came back here lol.

Anyway, the 06 looks good to me, I'd really like to have both the yz450 and yz250 but only have money for one :( I think most here agree that if we could we'd have all the bikes under the sun.

I grew up in central calif. We had open riding from ifg front porches. 15 to 20 hours per week was easy. Where I am now is as nice. I just have a bigger choice of what I want to ride on than I ever did in calif. If I was growing up there no I am guessing that dirtbikes would have little appeal.
