as far as what you're getting at, yes, we do see quite a bit make its way from RV's bike to ours over time.

Mitch Payton made a fortune selling motors "like" the pros.
Then his motors were strictly for pros and now they are just for pro circuit pro riders. He gets as many free motors as he needs to keep those Kawi 250's on the podium. It's a win win and win again partnership. That's why Honda had a falling out with him. They wanted only American honda motors on the box and were not willing to share the spotlight. Mitch wanted to be on top. Good for him. Even though we don't get the same 2 MOTO bombs that he builds for his guys he still puts a great motor together for guys that are up and coming.

A few years ago he had a pretty candid interview where he told how much more those 250f's were to keep in top form than the two stroke 125's that they replaced.

I remember that interview.
I think the quote was something like " you can make them fast but keeping them together is the real work" or something like that.

You never heard him say anything about it again, at least to the derogatory side. They are nice bikes, but as far as improving racing they have in one light made it more appealing, but the costs associated with keeping them up has probably driven more people away than the economy would have alone. It is hard to tell.

I am glad to see that the other majors have not done as Honda has in the 80-85cc class either. Funny how Honda's response to do that was to beat Yamaha to it (the cr150r).

Why knock what propels you into another tax bracket. He owns and manages the most successful satellite team in history. He knows what's up.

Now Honda..... Boo. They've been trying to control the AMA for years and did it for a while in road racing.

exactly, I got the impression that he made the comment when he had been without sleep too long lol. After getting quoted a bunch he probably decided it was a little bit counterproductive from a business standpoint.

Honda has been a big bully in racing for a long time. They tried to force the vtwins and triples out of Daytona by threatening to pull their race team and sponsorship. Ducati is still racing their and triumph pulled a couple wins out of there recently as well. Honda pulled out of the racing but bought all the commercial time. Lol

I recall it a little differently, in that Honda didn't agree with the cc advantage given to some designs. If I am not mistaken they were not the only mfr's to disagree.

Honda was pulling out of quite a bit of racing at the time. All based on economics and what people wanted to buy.
