What did you do to your car/truck today?

not really, we didn't lease but I DID lease in the past... I was one of those 3-5 year traders so I leased a truck. after the lease was up it was turn it in and do it again OR buy a new one ....... that's when I turned to my buddy at teh dealership and asked for his guidance. Gave me a new perspective on "used" vehicle purchasing. Don't have ot buy whats on the lot... have them go find exactly what you're looking for in your price range, etc.... THAT worked for me, leasing didn't.

That's where the "smart" money is. I just can't seem to go there. I generally do the 10 year rotation. 5 year loan, replacing the older vehicle once the newer one's loan is paid off. Kinda like having just 1 car payment at a time.

Was gonna try and figure out if it would make sense to just lease both vehicles and replace them both after 3 years. Maybe the combined payments would be a little higher than the 1, but you would be driving at the most, a 3 year old car/truck. Haven't spent the time to see if it would pencil out. You still need to be a good price negotiator to get the price down.

You are correct... negotiations are key...

RE: leasing 2 at a time... gotta look to the future and what it looks like (for you) after the leases runs out.

My wife and I are in a similar predicament with our purchased vehicles... bopth of our vehicles racked up over 100k at the same time but we can't afford to buy 2 new/newish vehicles so she got the NEW one... (mind you she deserved it) and I'm still driving mine... we're trying to figure out what we're going to do... continue to drag the TH up the hill, if so I'm going to need (want) a diesel in the near future, if not and go the way of a MH then I can continue to drive mine until it pukes. As for the MH, we can't afford to buy one right now so renting one is the direction HOWEVER, I learned that I am limited to what I can tow with it... nothing more than a MC trailer or jetski... and before anyone says well there ya go... NOPE not going to change my mind. :smirk:

Can't you tow your jeep all four down with disengaging the drives?

No Jeep, got Bronco...

Disengage as in "put in neutral"? If yes, I learned there are only a select few vehicles you can do that with where the gears won't burn up because of lack of oil flow or ? If I remember correctly they were... Jeeps, Hondas and Subarus.

As for the towing "rule"... that is what was written on their website, I talked to one of the sales guys, he said they DO NOT recommend it since the vehicles being rented belong to private parties being rented by this company. Therefore any problems beyond what they "allow" is all on the renter.... i.e. I burn up the tranny towing something not recommended... I owe the guy a new tranny!

It's their disclaimer however I've seen MH's pull some humongous things weighing who knows what... enclosed trailers with "cars" inside.

I use to own a 34 foot MH and towed a 22 foot enclosed trailer behind it almost every weekend for a few years. No issues. We pulled 20 foot + boats, bike trailers, Baja bug, S10 blazer all over the place without issues.

Rentals do have those stipulations set in there though and I can see a private party not wanting someone towing. I rented from El Monty and told them I was towing, They have to unlock the hitch so you could use it and it cost me like $40 more a day  Really, I am towing for one day and it sits in the desert for 5 and then tow another day home? Ludicrous.

Thats the cost of renting over ownership guys... :prof:

Ok, I guess I was mis-interpreting what you were talking about. I thought you were saying if you bought a MH you would be limited to what you could tow. I guess what you meant was that a rental MH place will let you tow a Jetski or a MC trailer only. My bad, move along, nothing more to see her.......hye, you, lurker over their with your hand in your pants, yes, the Quad rider, move along:naughty:
