Is it the written test ? I need to get my son down to take it. Can you get the permit right after you get your normal driving license or do you have to wait a year. Oh and good luck. I am sure you will ace it

yeah it's the written test. they have all the info on the dmv website, along with a downloadable pdf version of the motorcycle rule booklet. I do know that you do need to have your drivers license first before you can get your motorcycle permit/license, but if I remember correctly as long as you have that, and get a parent/guardian signature(if under 18) then you can take your permit test.

yeah i think it'll be pretty easy, some common sense stuff, my dad said he can't wait till i get it cuz then I can possibly get my own bike and start riding with him :busted:

The motorcycle written test is a bitch. My son took it 3 times. I pride myself on being able to score well on tests, got a 100% on my hunters safety test, 98 on my private pilots test, and just barely passed this sucker and I studied. Study up and study hard

I had trouble too last time I took it. Part of the problem is it seems they try to trick you on the MC test the way they word stuff. Read it careful a couple times.

Yeah I got the little pamphlet that I've read a couple of times over but will go over it one final time before I go and take it :ride:

those tests always try to trick you, but i hope that i pass the first time cuz it just makes things easier and ya don't have to worry about making all these different appointments. I usually do most of my stuff at the Long Beach DMV but the earliest appointment that I could have gotten in was June 16th, but that didn't work cuz of my summer class. So I'm takin it at the Fullerton DMV, not sure how good it is over there....heard the westminster one is a piece of cake, hahah probably why all the asians go over there :D

Good Luck! The written test is not too bad. I told my son when he was taken it to not rush through it. Some of the questions seem tricky, but just read the answers and scratch out which ones do not make sense and then you will find the most suitable.

Once you have your Permit, then you can enter the Safety Class. My son had some pavement time before he went into the class and he still learned a few things during his 2 day class time.

Once all that is done you are ready to go! Have fun and Ride Safe! :thumb:

Thanks, haha i made my appointment early in the day cuz the DMV doesn't allow written tests to be taken after 4:30. Also i was ready, if I read it correctly that anyone under 21 has to take the safety class anyway so i'll be doin that. They actual do it in one of the parking lots at my school but it's a three day course.. friday afternoon, then sat and sun morning. Then I'll be able to start riding with my dad

Can anyone suggest some bikes that I should look into? My mom said no crotch rockets, which i wasn't even thinking of as my first bike anyway, but I'm short 5'1" to be exact...i've kinda had my eye on the new CRF230M, any other suggestions?

Good luck Steph. As to the stuff in bold above - priceless. :thumb:

That new CRF looks really nice they are finally coming out with some cool DS's. I am not positive but when me and my wife were shopping for DS's the dealer told us that any bike under 250cc's is not legal to ride on the highway only city streets, something you might want to look into. You should check out a DRZ400SM. Good luck with the test!

oh ok yeah I'll definitely consider that......we have a 08 DRZ400DS right now and are trying to sell it.....i'm short (5'1-2ish") so unless someone can tell me how i can lower it by a good significant amount (think the seat is like 37-38") then i'm a little restricted on what i can ride :banghead::banghead:
