what RC truck?

hey guys iv been wanting an RC truck for awhile now (and not a walmart one lol) and ill have around $200 in the near future so im gonna buy one. so after talking to kyle about them iv decided to get an electric because, well to be honest the nitro sounds like it would need to much work to be fun and the fuel is $30+ a gallon and the only place to get it is like an hour or 2 away. so the electric i was looking at was the Traxxas slash but now that i think about where i want to drive it the slash looks a little to low to the ground i think it would get stuck so i think i might get a crawler if i can find a good deal i would need to get everything to run one for around $200. the thing with the crawler is that i wonder if it would also have speed for when im ont in the open. im kinda wanting something thats all purpose fast enough to be fun in an open feild and tall enought to get over obsticales. im mainly looking at Traxxas but would consider other brands if they are easy to find stuff for from what i know Traxxas and Losi are the biggest brands.

i mostly want to know about crawlers, what brands to look for and stuff like that and will they be fast or are they just for crawling like slow a steady? or will a regular truck be good with obsticales?

thanks

RC Truck = Money pit. Trust me.

exactly... i've got over 10k worth of stuff collecting dust and probably could only get $500 for it :banghead:

as far as crawlers, yeah they're as slow as you can gear them too, i'd say don't get one unless you've got a massive rock pile cause they will climb everything. what it sounds like you need though (only if your not racing) is something like the Traxxas Stampede http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=TRA3605 but they make a faster version http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=TRA3607 and even a 4wd version http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=TRA6708

ok ill check it out, is there a big difference between the 4x4 abd the 2 wheel drive?

Gee, I only have (Nitro) 5 trucks, 10 extra bodies. 2 cars 6 extra bodies. (Electric) 6 buggie/stadium trucks, 5 extra bodies. YES = MONEY PIT!:foul::thinking:

hey redswr i have 1 last question. do you think a stampede wold go over a street curb or rock roughly 6in tall? i know the ground clearange is about 4in so you would think it could do so..ill take a few pics of where i want to run it and post so you can get an idea.

i've never actually used one... the Rustler which is a 2wd stadium truck though i've gotten to climb a curb... just gotta get the front wheels up on it and then gas it :smirk: the power to weight ratio on these things are insane so you don't really have to worry about getting stuck in to many places, if your worried i'd get the 4x4 stampede

an old BMX buddy of mine moved on from BMX and got into these. he is really into the rock crawling ones. There is piles of bolders near my house that i occasionally see him playing with his rock crawler RC truck. He spends THOUSANDS on this shit. I told him he should get a dirt bike so we can ride and he says he wants to but keeps spending all his money on these things. :picard:

the crawlers are insane on what they can crawl... i had the Losi CompCrawler which was a kit for like $300 and then the motor, speed control and servos cost like another $500. Theres a couple different things with the crawlers on how they're set up though, the one i had could lock either the front of rear diff in place to where you could turn sharper or if your barely on a cliff and can't afford to slip just pull with the front wheels (as seen in video). My dads has 4 wheel steering which is pretty cool too though.
