My 2500 HD diesel 4x4 does far better than that even while towing a 30 ft loaded hauler.

That's what is nice about diesels. We get about 15mpg in the cummins with the 35 foot toy hauler loaded.

I don't think I would ever hang onto a small SUV that did that poorly.
My dad's 1 ton will get 12-18 depending on how much weight is behind it
