Thinking of upgrading...

I think I want a newer 250F. I dont see myself needing a 450 any time soon.
Basically I want a decent all-around bike, something with good power and handles well.
I do like Yamaha's and I'm not getting rid of my YZ250 so I'm thinking a YZ250F would feel similar and comfortable, but I might be open to something else. I just dont know what years/models are better than others. Yall's advice has served me well in the past so I figured I'd throw this out there.

I did a quick CL search in my area, bikes from 2K-4K $$$.
Below are some links to whats available, feel free to opine if you care to.

Also, given my skill level, would I notice, (or be able to sufficiently utilize) one of the newer bikes technology compared to the older ones?
And I'm thinking I dont want air-suspension.

@PALMER84ONE I'm sure thats a sweet ride, and of course I would be interested, but thats part of the question - would a newer bike really benefit me all that much?
It's not like I'm fast. I just need a bike thats more refined, has the bugs worked out, and would be easier for me to ride.

Any MX race bike is going to be a race bike period. If you are track only than any good EFI bike is going to be good. My son on his 2018 flys at the track. Much better than his older CRF450R. It is all perspective.

You know when I do a bike, I don't cut corners. I picked this up off my sons girlfriend dad, he tossed the chain, broke the case, and went out and bought a 19 when they cam out. He has $$ and put fastway hubs, A-60 hoops, twin air intake, cycra free flow plastic intake, etc. etc. yahdi, yahdi, yah. Kept all the records of it with the manual, AR kind of guy. It had 263 hours on the whole bike, around 120 hours on the crank less on 270 piston, new head, and now it just has heat cycles one short ride up and down the street, with a case transplant, I did new OEM crank, Cam chain, OEM bearings/seals/gaskets, new Vertex piston for the 270 kit. a bunch of bad parts that it didn't come with, Ive been really been thinking of keeping it and just dicking around at the OHV places around me in Prescott. LOL

That worked.

I think I've narrowed it down to needing 4 bikes - one 2T MX, one 4T MX, one trail (WR?), and my Harley. Then I'm done.
Yah, I am narrowing things down. I have my Beta up for sale also. I want 5 bikes really, and I am not counting my vintage 73 DT and CT 3's, or my 81 MX100. But my list goes like this if the Beta goes I replace it with current year WR450F, keep my 2004 YZ250WR, my 2003 YZ300X, and my 17 WR250F all DS in AZ, that will make me happy, the 5th would be this MX or another. I would just drop the WR450 if the beta doesn't sell, and I am still riding it anyway.

Palmers advice is good. EFI is the way to go. Forget the 07-08 yzf that frame is weird, no flex imo. The ‘14 is wide at the shrouds but still a nice solid machine. A little harder to start than it should be for some reason, and I’m a big fan of the newer kxf. Thing lites up with 3 half hearted kicks, turns well and pretty narrow at the tank so it encourages you to slide up on it. No experience with the air forks and I don’t want any either. There’s a reason they got ditched and I don’t want to find out why.

Yep, that is all true. If you don't give the YZ a little push through to find the sweet spot, you can kick a few times and nothing. Right after I got this thing together to fire on it's first wake from the dead, I had thought I got the timing off. So I pulled the valve cover and checked it all again, and it was spot on. Read through the manual a little more and gave it another roll through and bam, it fired. So my son with the 18 shows ups few days later and I tell him and he's no dad, the EFI bikes like to be right in a certain spot and they fire. He gets on in, strokes it through and fires it right up from cold. Pffft, damn kids.. Give me my button on 4 strokes, and 2's I can deal with a kicker.
And she does look a little fat in the tank. But she seems to be the same as my 17 WR250F.

Palmers advice is good.
He has never steered me wrong, and has been very good to me here.

Thats the kind of info I was looking for and the reason I come here!
@Trfsrfr - Buy Palmer's , you are not going to get a better used YZ for the price. I have ridden a few of his projects and they are solid.
See above, and I'm working on it.
If you’re gonna ride slow you better look good!
I'm still slow but getting faster, however, I expect that will eventually diminish and I will just have to look fast.
