Ride safe, ride smart and that's a good choice for a 1st bike. You' might out grow it quickly but it will get you where you wanna go.

Hmmmmm.... last time I saw a TTR it was in "mid-transformation" from baalue to orange......

That is a clean TTR. I see turn signals on that thing, does it have a license plate hanging off it? Burbank to the dez is about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive, but like Serge said, Gorman and Rowher is about an hour from you. Get some gear and get that bike dirty.

Like others have said, how are you doing on riding gear?
I'd venture to say it's well into the 1000's, heck the Big Mac is "only" 550 calories. Their Angus Bacon & Cheese is 790.
I'm going to go check out some helmets and boots tomorrow! Any suggestion on entry level gear?
And yeah, it's plated. My buddy told me that would probably be a good idea so I can ride public fire roads and take it around the block.
any helmet with a DOT and Snell approval.... 89- 600 bucks on those depending on what you want.. goggles around $20, boots around $100+ gloves around $15... you can use work boots and Jeans with a long sleeve shirt to get you by until you decide if you really want to ride agressively or scooter around on fire roads......
Just remember this.... Dress for the crash, not the ride.

From experience, don't skimp on your helmet and boots. If you have a $50 head get a $50 helmet. All helmets have DOT and Snell approval, however that doesn't mean that a helmet can't exceed those ratings. My last 3 helmets have been Bell Moto 8's and instead of paying the $400 sticker price I got them for $160. How you ask, CLOSEOUTS!

If possible go to a shop so you can see how the gear fits. I've had to send back helmets that just didn't fit my head. Not sure where you are, but Chaparral has an unbelievable amount of gear on the floor. Cycle Gear has started it's own house brand of lower end, but decent gear for good prices. It's worth a look.
But NOT all have both together... the better brands do because they want to show how important helmet protection is...like electrical applicances that have UL AND CSA approval on them.
I think I even read the breakdown of helmet safety ... Some said Snell approved, some said Snell certified... I could be wrong however I'm pretty sure I saw that.
As a summer action/porn star who makes his living with a particular piece of his anatomy, I can tell you that I spend enough to buy a second hand hockey helmet but, I wear a $900 jock strap. Your needs may vary.
All kidding aside, your head is worth it. Size is important.
