Headlights Stay On Via the 'On Switch" When Bike Is Off??(Not My Bike)

In California the law about lighting for street bikes is not about the headlight. It is about the tail light. The headlight can be driven directly off of the stator. An example would be a XL600. The headlight is only on if the engine is spinning. My dual sport Beta was the same way. No light with the engine off. I think the smaller KTM's are like that. Bikes with a larger battery like essentially all street bikes or even the XR650L run the headlight off of the battery.

I re-did my rectifier/regulator on my Beta to make it all DC. I used a newer TrailTech reg that has a time delay switch for the headlight. It's adjustable from a few seconds to about 2 minutes. Doing a lot of night riding with a light that shuts off when the engine dies is not a good thing.

Here is a link to that regulator
