Yes it has the least resistance ... But....

Well if you are holding the back tire... I can see where 5th would be better now that i think about it.(I think) ...
 
Are you referring to 5th having more resistance in taking a nut off? It's basically the same as riding the bike, you take off in 1st as it has the least resistance right?
thats not resistance. thats lack of torque(?) due to the gears(?)... not sure exactly how to say that, but I wouldn't call it resistance.

Resistance might not be the correct technical term, however it gets the point across.

A rotational force applied to a shaft causing acceleration, such as a drill bit accelerating from rest, the resulting moment is called a torque.
