All 3RD ANNUAL DBA TURKEY DAY GOBBLE AND RIDE

OW rocks unless you ride OW. All the good stuff is outside the park. It pays to go with someone that knows the area.

There will be extra enforcement every where on TDay weekend. This is the reason I always make family plans on holidays... and ride the weekend BEFORE or AFTER a holiday. I own the trails this way... and never see a LEO. But I make my own hours... and understand others live for their company sponsored extended holiday weekends. It's just too bad thats when the LEOs gear up to make a buck.

Ride outside the park? That usually means red stakes unless they haven't got around to planting those red things down OW way.

Another way to avoid the enforcement is to ride where they are not. I doubt that there will be much presence inside Spangler other than the typical roving patrols. To see the enforcement head to Jawbone/Dove. Prehaps the BLM will do a repeat of the Rand mountain bike inspection checkpoint.

One of these days I have to check out OW and the region. It's just so far due to where I live. Nothing like new areas though. It always makes for a good time.

When I hear to ride outside of the park that makes me think something is sketchy. :noidea: Who is in charge of the land outside of the park? And if the area outside of the park is so good and the actual park sucks so bad then why are there not more riders outside of the park?

It's a little like the Mojave Area. In the park is 80,000 acres open area like Spangler. It is run by CA State Parks. Same people that run Hungry Valley. They have the same kind of free maps. And a Ranger Station on site... and you can even do some OHV registrations with them. Or at lleast you used to be able to.

Outside the park is either State Parks street legal only... or BLM (Green & Red sticker OK).
All LEGAL !

State Parks street legal is on trail only. BLM down there is like it used to be most places... open desert. There is some private land... and restricted and signed BLM land too... but it is NOTHING like Cal City area. You will not find 3000 Karsonite signs in OW.

You guys that don't know other areas would be shocked... and better understand why those of us that ride every where are so bothered by the behavior of the FOJ and BLM and Cal City LEOs that refer to themselves as the friendliest OHV destination in the world... because they have made a mess out of the area compared to other locations like OW.

The people of the greater Cal City area are drinking their own Kool-Aid if they believe they have the best OHV location. There is NO desert in all of the state as over-managed as it is around Cal City except maybe Glamis.

So when are we going down there.

Regarding Andrew's Memorial Ride to the Husky:

I am picking up the photo plaque tomorrow. Will get it mounted somehow this weekend. I will probably go ahead and get it on a stake to make this simple. Who is gonna bring digging tools and some water and ready mix concrete to set this in place ?

BIG DAN... you are close by. Can I get this plaque to you next week since I won't be there to help place it at the Husky ? You are still going correct ?

might be a bit ambitious so we will see but i will be in OW for the beginning of the week/weekend then a family t-day and prolly a day of rest. Then i might come out to join the Spangler crowd for the rest of the week or till im too tired to ride or the family is done. still not set in stone tho so dont quote me :smirk:
