Honda claims the design with a muffler on both sides helps balance the handling.....plus as you stated noise suppression.

My source at Dr D told me they will offer both the dual and single set up but that they are getting better power from the single muffler set up plus ...... its 5.4 Lbs lighter!

That's probably true, although I think handling is a way to sell a better noise suppressor to the buying public, 99.99% of which isn't good enough at riding to tell a ±5lb difference on the bike, let alone where it is.

As for making more power with a single, I figured that may be the case. Merges or divisions in the intake or exhaust tracts don't usually help output. Come to think of it, two valves in a single port isn't ideal, either.
