Other 1980 Yamaha TT250

It has been fixed! The idle still needs some tuning to be perfect, but the bike is no longer dying!
I went over to the bike shop today telling them it was still dying with the choke on.
They looked at it. Shot cleaner through it and said it was all clear. Then the guy noticed the throttle slide(I think that's the name) was sitting too low in the carb and the throttle screw was already bottomed out.

He came to the conclusion the throttle screw was the wrong one and I got a longer one and he adjusted it to where the slide moved up a little bit more.

Here's the old vs new screw.

Here's how the slide looked on the engine side after the new screw.
Before the gap between the slide and carb was almost non existent.

I put it on the bike, started up and was idling without the choke!!
I hope it is the end of this issue.

I was able to ride it and come to a stop with no dying.

Thanks everyone!

With this good news comes bad news. My brake lever snapped yesterday and I put a new one on, right after the new one, the cable snapped.

Save yourself now. Go buy a throttle cable and any other cables you may need to go or stop.

Glad you got this running properly, I am surprised that the guy who told you that if the carb isn't flooding the float is adjusted properly also found the problem with the idle screw.

Let's see a couple pictures of the bike!

Thanks! Me too, it's the second bike I've owned and it runs great.
I am glad they figured out the idle screw was the issue, so their float rule about it not flooding is wrong?

there is a measurement for the float. if its flooding its likely it's wrong....however it could be adjusted too rich but not to the point of raw gas flowing out of the vents, likewise, it could be adjusted too lean causing just as many other problems. what they told you is kinda like saying if you bake pie, as long as it doesn't catch fire in the oven, the oven isn't set too hot.

Yea, I guess that's what they said basically.
It's adjusted to where the actual float hits the carb body when the carb is flipped upside down, but fuel doesn't flow out of the overflow hose when fuel is on.
I need to get the spec and measure it.
