Foot position

How do you guys stand on your pegs when you ride?

I've ridden bikes for 14 years, so I ride on the ball of my feet. But it's difficult to hit the rear brakes
But when I see people ride they always have the pegs near the middle of their feet. and I know they can hit their brakes easy, but when i ride like that i feel like I'm gonna fall or accidentally hit my rear brake when i don't mean to.

I ride with the pegs just behind the balls of my feet(so I'm almost riding ON MY BALLS bahahaha!), but it's not my arches. If I need to shift or brake I take the foot off the peg and use it. If I'm braking I keep my right leg firmly up against the bike while I use the brake, this makes my foot easier to control the brake, and not jerky. It's good to be able to ride standing on one foot--if you lose a foot getting it knocked off you dont' panic, and your balance gets better too.

I also turn my toes in just a little, this makes my knees go firmer into the sides if there's a sudden launch n land, or sudden slow down kid of thing--my knees dont' slide along the bike and then the bars end up in my lap kind of thing(owowow).

But I'm not doing brake slides around (most) turns either. But that sure is handy for downhill switchbacks(learning!)

+1 on what Plushpuppy said. You should not ride flat footed but you do not want to be too far up on the balls of your feet. If you ride too flat footed you can get ankle injuries when hitting big G outs or ruts because your foot can pivot too much. Since I have boats for feet, I can reach the break and shifter fine in this position, but if you have smaller feet you will need to shift you foot forward if you are applying a little rear break when hammering through a long whoop sections. Having the pegs just behind the balls of your feet will help the desert guys rotate up over the tank and bars for the high speed open areas. You can get up and rest your thighs against the bars and it will take some pressure off the legs for a rest period.

Everyone tells me this exact same thing.

One day at the track(like my 2 or 3rd time) i was struggling to do this step up jump. I keept landing right on teh hump and bouncing and one time when i bounced it almost bucked me completley off the bike... one leg was all the way over the seat on the right side but that one foot stayed on the peg so i saved it... was a heart thumper for sure but i didnt go down :thumb:

mine are usually in the arch where they feel comfy but it may be a little better to have them right behind the ball. I just have a hard time switching my stance when riding at race speed i allways revert back.

I ride with the peg in the middle of my arch...I feel I have more control and more comfort. I've tried it on the balls of my feet however it requires (as you say) moving to reach the brakes and shifter...when doing this I feel I am out of control having to move around too much! :prof:

Depends on what Im doing. I shift my feet around alot depending on the terrain, speed, standing, sitting, jumping, Whoops sections etc.

My feet are usually propped up on an ice chest :Prof;

:lol: ^^^^^ Personally, I try and keep at least one foot on my wallet - you know, so I have some sense of when Monkey-Family empties it:prof:

Seriously though, if you are a track rider and spend most of your time on the balls of your feet, I suggest you run, don't walk, to your nearest medical supply store and pick up a set of good quality crutches :prof:
