What exactly do you mean playing with it? Do you fly these things?

What I mean by play with it is............. Im an aircraft mechanic by trade. And my buddy that just purchased that one will need help with it when he comes to Reno next week, and again in September for the air races. So I will be a "Crew member" on that particular aircraft and probably a jet also. This one to be exact and yes Ive flown this one too.

I have flown a Mustang before. However I wont be flying that one, mostly because Im not rated to fly it, and there clearly isnt any room for 2 people. The Mustang that I flew was rigged up to be a two place, and I flew it with a rated pilot.

Yes it is Negde. Its gonna be a lot of polishing too, with all that bare aluminum. But she looks great all shined up.

Smoke - that jet is Badassery squared to the second power :thumb: Just one question - those Stangs did not come originally with dual props did they? Dang, I would love to come out and see those badboys rip!

You are correct. The P-51 Mustang did not come with the countor-rotating propeller set up. Nor did they come with the engine that is installed in that airplane. This particular aircraft has a British Griffon 130 V-12, that comes standard with the countor-rotating propeller. It makes 2400 + HP unmodified. Where the more common Rolls Royce Merlin makes only 1700 hp stock. Oh by the way did I mention that this engine isnt stock? I dont know exactly the HP rating but I do know it has been modified to make more power.

Now you have to get rated!

Those planes are so cool! :thumb: Ive always wanted to go to the Reno Air Races. I met this neat old lady who has been going for years and years. She had a plane necklace around her neck and that is what struck up our conversation. We started talking about planes and dirt bikes. She rides both. She has box seats at the Reno air show and offered for me to come out and watch with her. So sweet of her! I love connecting with nice people like that, seeing as I just met her an hour earlier. Im heading up to Reno to ride in a 3 weeks (hopefully)

Those pics are amazing! I love that green wing plane. It just needs Kawasaki on the side of it:smirk:

I hope you will do an AR. As in "air report" when you get back.

Give me some hard dates when your going to be in Reno. I live in Reno, and would love to link up and ride (dirt) if it works with my schedual. As for an Air Racing report. I'll definatelly keep you guys posted. If your able to make it to Reno for the Air Races its in Sept 14-18. I highly recommend it if your even just a little interested in aviation. It IS the worlds fastest motorsport. Race speeds in certain classes are in excess of 500 MPH!

:shocked:That is some serious speed! I wish those races were happening when Im going to be up there. I'll let you know as soon as my plans solidify. It is looking like June 23-28. It least one ride is planned so far over weekend and possibly two. I'll keep you posted. Oh, and I emptied my mailbox:wink:

Oh and Rez its Pylons.

they do a race in the bay of San Diego as well.... its insane watching them fly through those cones.

You guys are talking about the Red Bull Air Racing. And while those guys are pretty fast AND performing aerobatics. The speeds are fairly slow. 200-250 mph max. The slowest class (average of about 180-200 mph) of aircraft that race here in Reno are probably the Biplanes and within that particular class there is a biplane that set a new record last year at near or over 300 mph.

My hat is off to you my friend. I have always been a plane enthusiast and have been to many air shows but never the one in Reno. I wish I had taken another path growing up and gotten into aeronautics of some type. There is nothing like the sound of a P51 flying by at a fast clip. I guess at this stage I will just keep flying my RC planes. Thanks for the clarification of playing. :thumb:
