JB Weld

Got my bike back from the shop...fork seals have been repaired...I also had them do the oil mainly so they would have to order the filter and not me...glad I did, they found sludge in the case...since I've hardley ridden the thing I've never changed the oil...seems like the guy I bought it from never did either...but here's the problem. I knew I had an oil leak but NOW that the case has been cleaned out of all the sludge there is a serious "gap' where the gasket is shot and smoke is coming out, (I seriously think the sludge was sealing the gap). Without having to tear down the bike, crack the cases to fix this thing...not sure I could do it and/or the cost of having it done...would I be able to JB Weld it so I could get a few rides out of it until I buy a new bike (like next year)?

The area is right about where the head meets the case...

yes, you can glue it in some fashion. Im a fan of GOOP or SHOE GOO type of glues. They stay semi flexible, but WAYYY harder than silicon or Yamabond. Just clean the area well before no matter what you decide to do. Even turn the bike upside down if necessary to get the spot oil free before you glue.

:thumb:...thanks MIke...no need to turn in over, the leaks on the top side where the head is mounted to the case...of course it's behind the exhaust so it won't be a slam dunk!

I think a more inmportant question is, why is there smoke coming out of your lower end? Sounds like it's time for rings at the very least.

What kind of bike are you riding that the head attaches to the cases?

Definitely worth a try, and will probably work.:thumb:
I rode for nearly two seasons with JB Welded side case before it finally got welded. It was a campsite repair job that would've lasted forever. The only reason I got it welded was because the motor was torn apart to replace the crank.
I have a buddy at work who got an '09 KLX 450 from one of his friends who had to sell it after only one time out on the bike. After my buddy gets it, the case halves start to leak. A practically brand new bike with leaking cases. Must be a Kawasaki thing :smirk: Anyway, my buddy doesn't want to take the bike apart to fix it. And, he doesn't want to live with the leak either. So he drains the oil, hangs the bike upside down from the garage rafters for a month, then JB Welds the center seam. The bike is back in use and doesn't leak.
Just glue it. :ride:

I resent the Kawasaki remark.

1994 Husqvarna wxc 610 smart ass...I'm no mechanic, I've never had to work on my bikes since they've al been in good shape except for the TT500 that I just wore out :ride:. As for the head meetign the case...then if the head doesn't meet the case it's whaat ever is between the head and case. .I doubt I need new rings, it isn't blowing smoke/oil out the exhaust as a usual worn ring suspect would. As for replacing the rings "at the very least"...I'm not going to spend more money on it that I paid for it...

:P...:moon:

I'll stopping by autozone on my way home tonight......:thumb:

Since you have time for it to set, you could use the regular Red/Black JB Weld. But pick up some JB Weld Quick, it sets up in 5 minutes, that way you could put it in your pack for those close rock encounters out on the trail. :thumb:

I've never used this before...Is the quick stuff a 2 part mix also? :thumb:

+1 on using the slower set in the gatage. It is tougher than the 5 minute type. The most important part is surface prep. It has to be as clean as you can get it.
