How Often Do You Lube The Chain

Do to a conversation in the chat I figured it best to start this. Don't want somebody to ruin a perfectly good chain just because they were told to only lube it once a month, not realizing that that person only rides once a month. :poke: :smirk:

Me? I generally lube it right after I power wash the bike so it doesn't rust and again before I actually go :ride:

clean it off after every ride, and give it a quick lube, then a really good lube before every ride, but i didnt ride much when i hade my bike, so that was a feasible option

Plus 1 Jazz. After every moto - which corresponds to every cleaning:thumb:

I lube mine like every 2 rides. James, you do realize that when we were talking about once a month, we weren't talking about the chain...we were referring to the clutch cable :bonk: Chains are easy to lube, even I do mine often

Non ring chains need all th elube they can get. Ring type chains really only need it to prevent rust. For you power washers consider lubin before the wash. It will help to keep the water out.

I used to power wash all the time, now I only do it on occasion. One wave too close to the chain and water will get pushed past the rings.

Depending on where you ride lube can actually shorten the life by attracting abrasive dirt. If you ride in the wet and mud definitely lube that chain often. I usually ride in the dry. I use the chain wax and my chains usually last a long time.

o-rings never get lubed, just washed and then WD to get water off so they dont rust. Non o-ring needs lots of lube and to be removed and cleaned now n then. Like said attracting dirt is as bad as being dry. I dont like wax cuz it builds up and needs to be cleaned off, attracts dirt to stick.

:thumb: Yup, just to clarify I use a non o-ring chain.

:noidea: I'll let you come to your own conclusion, I just wanted to make sure that you knew to go by rides and not days in a month. Chains aren't cheap.

Dub - and the bike is awesome now. my whole palm clutch cable is now a buttery smooth 2 finger pull
Hawk - should always be a 2 finger pull..
Hawk - not gonna lie
Dub - not with an old crappy rusty worn out clutch cable apparently.
James - Now don't forget to lube it every week. (Get your mind out of the gutter)
Hawk - nah once a week is excessive
Dub - I'm not even gonna come up with a response
Dub - It's to easy
Hawk - get some good wax based lube and lube it once a month
Hawk - get a huge can of maxima chain wax, that stuff is AMAZING
Hawk - http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p...=34&prodFamilyId=3224&listingId=&sizeAttr=303
Dub - :noidea:
Dub - This is going to sound infinitely stupid, but how the hell do you lube a cable?
Hawk - plus you can use it on your bikes... and whatever else you want basically
Hawk - well with wax spray
Dub - it's inside the little rubber housing thing
Hawk - you just spray it on and the alcohol evaporates
Hawk - leaving the wax
Dub - spray it on where? -_-
Hawk - o-ring chains are tricky
Hawk - the chain, all over the outside
Dub - I have silkolene foaming chain lube for my chain, I was talking about the clutch cable
Hawk - make sure your chain is clean tho
Hawk - lol
Hawk - ohhh
Dub - I'm pro at lubing the chain already

i lube my chain before every ride.

thanks for reminding me tho im getting low on my can.. i need to get more before my KM trip next week.

I wipe the dust off and use WD40 to make it shine and it allows for the bike to roll easier from the back of the trailer over to the stand where it sits all day..:thumb:

Why roll it off the truck. Just put it on the stand in the bed. It's more at eye level that way.

Out of the toyhauler. I tried to leave it in there while we are camping but my wife gave me that look and told me to take it outside...:smirk:

You mean like this?

I don't power wash or pressure wash my bike. I wash it with a hose and keep the pressure down. I even get out the soap and water and scrub it. Clean all the dirt of the chain. Warm the bike up then lube everything. Then if I think the chain needs a little lube before we ride I spray it agian.
