The Confederate Flag is much like the Swastika, they both had different meanings in the beginning. The Swastika actually meant "good" and "peace", however the Nazis and the Holocaust changed that.

BTW you do know that the Confederate Flag was only a battle flag right? It was never a national flag, the Stars and Bars was. However the battle flag was used as the union (top left part of the flag) in later versions of the national flag.

I'd say that we could partially blame President Lincoln for the racism that's now associated with the Battle Flag and the Civil War in general. IMO he used the "free the slaves" for political reasons. The other thing to blame is our school system.

The swastika was also used by the native americans as a symbol of luck if I'm not mistaken long before the Nazis began using it. :prof:

Also, was Honest Abe really a vampire hunter???... :noidea:

yep the whole slavery thing is and has been taught to us all wrong.

it was a fucked up thing but the civil war was not purley about slavery... the schools have you believe it is tho.

Like with any kind of history, they're not going to teach anything that will cast any negativity over a subject such as this... not until the person is old enough to be able to understand the difference like in college where they can debate topics...etc.

yea rez... im a little foggy on the exact history on the swastika (and i dont want to google right now ) but from my understanding is that it was a peaceful thing.

i use to wear a iron cross hat and ive had people tell me im crazy for wearing that. i asked why and they brought up racisum.. it makes me sad that i have to tell them that the USA still hands out medals using the iron cross in it.

So we lie to them until they're old enough to understand it? What you're taught at that age is what sticks with you the longest.

Anything with the confederate flag is a problem to me. It represents too many nasty things which would overwhelm whatever supposed good is out there.

Does the American flag make you cringe too? The same country than ran off Native Americans and brutally murdered them for selfish wants of MORE land? The country that rounded up Asians during WWII and put them in prisons just for being Japanese?

Yeah, but the Confederate flag is SO bad because it represents the Southern states.

Remember, it wasn't just the Southern states that were racist against blacks. If you know some history, you will recall that even the Northern states were just as racist against blacks. Remember the 54th Massachusetts Regiment (the first all-black regiment) that was denied combat, not given any equipment, and heckled by the white soldiers?

Here's a quote from Abraham Lincoln...the freer of the black man, right? He's a northerner, so he CANT be racist.
“I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races—that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”
~ Abraham Lincoln, Debate with Stephen Douglas, Sept. 18, 1858
It was a racist world then...not just southerners.

If you honestly think that people sporting the Confederate flag are all racist, you have a lot of learning to do. As a lot of us say down here....Heritage Not Hate. I even know black people that wear the Confederate flag.

To us, it's a symbol of southern pride and many other things.

I never had a confed flag problem, not the least bit until I hit highschool. There are a lot of dumb shits running through the hallways decked in the rebel flag screaming "WHITE POWER!" I just think it makes them look insanely stupid and they make the flag look stupid. Nothing against the people or the flag, but there's the minority with an IQ total under 10 making the people and the flag look like total shits.

:picard: In Ohio, right?
So, that's what gives us a bad name.

Pretty much! There is a big difference in the people you and I know, and they totally ruined the flag through nothing but their stupidity :picard: The one of them was harassing some gay kid at lunch and pushing him around (3 years younger at least, doing nothing to provoke) and got his ass knocked out last year.
Mind you this guy is 18, and tried to arm wrestle me at the beggining of the year and had to go to the office because he though I broke his hand on the table :picard:

I wouldn't say it's a lie... they taught the truth however many things may have been left out..... good OR bad!

Good explanation, but I never said that all people that fly the flag are racist... but it does not denote good things to most people.

You're very right on that. That's why I dont fly it or wear it hardly any, because a lot of people get the wrong idea...even here.

There are certain times it's necessary to break out the ole Confederate flag. Like when I'm driving through Compton CA, for example. :smirk:

today at raging waters there was some hispanic fellers in line. 1 of them was obviously from a set of some sort by all his tattoos. then i noticed that all the dudes had the same shit... so pretty obvious that they were all gangbangers but i dont care about any of that. the only thing that bothered me was They had Chicano pride and Mexican pride tattoos. even all their women had MP tats as well. Now i personally dont consider that to be racist at all (even tho they prolly are). if you want to have pride in your race thats cool.

BUT.... if i was walking around that place with white pride tattoo i gurantee i would be looked at as a racist and would catch all kinds of shit for it if not get into a fight.

fucking wrong just wrong.
