What the heck is that?

Was looking at Bermuda on Google Maps, I have no idea why, but I saw something strange. Take a look at the picture below, what is that straight line thingy in the bay? Did they dredge that out so bigger ships could come to port or is it something else?

I was looking at the DBA member map and I saw what looked like a little island off of the east coast, so I zoomed in. :smirk:

Good question and I am happy to help out here. That, James, is what is known as the "El Grande Straight Line In the Bay". It is a geological formation that appeared soon after Oprah tried water skiing in the bay without her bouyancy suit on. :prof:

I guess it could be a dredged channel, but I am curious about that thing that looks like a big red arrow. It's friggin huge. Is it a big dock for the cruise ships or what? And why is it painted red?

more then likely its just where google stitched an image together. Sometimes you will see ghost cars or half of a person as well.

If you look closely you can see another faint one below the arrow perpendicular to the other one.

it is a dredged up shipping lane ... i found this on the internet ... its called the Dundonald Channel

it highlights all the shipping lanes

It's a weather phenomenon known as the "Parting of the Bermuda sea" caused by opposing ocean currents. :rolleyes:
