All Sierra Safari 2010

I have done this ride the last two years. The first with a friend who rides an 02' Honda 450, stock MX suspension. He got beat and had to stop in the rocks and rest since we took the hard way. We were about the 15th group of two to go. At the half way point we were 2 and 3, a desert racer hauled butt all the way and beat everyone. Two other guys passed us in the rocks and then we hit the falling snow. It snowed on us and we were unprepared, very cold. I got prepared for the next year.

Last year I took my wife since the buddy couldnt make it. We took the easy trails on the way over to Hawthorne Nevada, moderate trails the 2nd day and easy on the way home the 3rd day. She was the only girl that year.

My wife cant go this year due to a new job. So, I am putting this out to anyone who would like to go this year.

Leave Fresno Thur nite, motel provided in Mammoth Mt. Breakfast provided and ride 130 mi or so to Nev, gas provided on the trail. Motel provided in Nev with beer, meals, etc. 2nd day is 100 mi round trip ride to Bodie in CA after the provided breakfast. Gas again in Bodie is provided. Pay for your own lunch and ride back to Nev. 3rd day meals, gas and ride back to Mammoth. BBQ at motel when you get in. Showers provided and drive home or spend the nite at reduced rate on you.

Prizes given out at dinner banquet on Sat nite. Meals are at the Casino, drinks, gambling, local toothless girls and such. Motel and casino next to each other.

If you get hurt or break down they get you out. Sat phones and a tow quad with a front wheel set-up for your bike. Two to a room, so a friend or warm butt, I guess it can be the same, is better.

The ride scenery is beautiful. The ride is what you make of it. It isnt real hard and there is the easy way on dirt roads and easy trails. It may only last a few more years. They have been told they will get a permit til they skip a year and then who knows. There have been 30 to 100 riders on the rides thru the years. 2 to 4 start per minute to spread you out.

It costs about $650 per person. Green or red sticker bikes are good, you also need insurance which is about $75 a year for each bike thru Geico. Who is in to consider it?:ride:

your son would love this ride. Are his grades good enuf to miss a day of school? I put on new tires, take spare tubes, got hand covers, lite rain coat for the back pack and a bag for the front of the bike. I used filter skins and small can of spray oil for the filters. Will probly take a spare filter this year. So half of the bike cost is tires which you probly need any way. Share the tool kit and spare tubes amongst your group and its not too much to carry. Soft suspension is nice. Not too many whoops on these trails once out of Mammoth, but there are some rock gardens of the baseball to basket ball size to go thru for a mile or two at a time. Got to take a camera too.

a kid on a KX85 did it with my group last year. He had to carry gas with him. he was pretty fast too. He and my wife were neck n neck at first, then she got tired and he pulled her.

That looks fuck awsome. if i have the money i'd love to go on that one.
i was told today that i might be able to get my wr street legal in nevada if so that will open a lot of new trips for me .

This can be done on a dirt bike no plate.

I heard on the net that NV has now gotten tuff like CA on dirt bikes getting a plate. Hope you can.

This last year wife n I saw a herd of wild horses, was cool to see them in the middle of now where.

Sounds cool. Always wanted to do it. I'm sure $650 is a bargain, but it's an extravagance I'll have to pass on in these economic times. By the time I got the bike in shape for it, paid expenses up and back, it would be over $1500. So, no go. But maybe some year.....

all packed up ready to go. Lots of rain and some snow. Will be cool in the mornings and PUUURRFECT dirt for this year. Got my 1 inch shorter suspension for my "old ass that tips over too much" to try out. New rear tire, dont get behind me.:ride:

For the cost of the Sierra safari I can take the entire family to the dez for 5 days.

No kidding! Im always thinking about rides like this and how if I knew the right person the same ride could be done for far less, ideally free and maybe even be more fun then with a large group. Large group things are fun in their own way, but also typically are an event that requires $ and has more restrictions.

You get 3 days of motel, 3 days of food, gas, crew to get you out if you break or get hurt, a marked course, free drinks at the casino, see things you probly will never see, a gas stop in the middle of the desert 60mi into the ride(who you gonna get to wait for you on your own?) for $200 a day. Go to Disney and spend a day at the park and nite at a motel and how much do you pay? Seems in line to me. Bunch a tite asses you guys are. Sure you can do it yourself. But it wont be as nice or smooth.
