RM250 RM 250 ‘06 Rebuild

I was fortunate enough to get an early birthday present pre lock down (my birthday is in July haha)

Tried to get the most comprehensive parts list together before we got locked down (last week Thursday here in RSA) so I could do a 22 day rebuild but alas, I missed a bunch. Thought I’d post some pics of the before, during and sort of afters. Looking forward to wrapping up what I hope is a cool rebuild and getting some tips and opiniona!

This is how she arrived and immediately got the strip down after a quick ride.

The wheels were in terrible Condition. I got the rims stripped of the powder coating along with the hubs and then got the hub polished which I think came out really well. Rims were anodized gold. Spokes got electroplated and all in all I think turned out good for a reasonable price compared to any other alternative.

The frame was re-powder coated and the exhaust got some polishing up too. Keen to see how the black frame works with the rest of the colour scheme I have in mind. Saw so much epic stuff online. Being colour blind hasn’t helped my cause !

A lot of the hard yards were made with a tooth brush, petrol, Alu brite and many beverages :) I’m really pleased how it came out. I’d love to have the equipment And budget to totally polish this stuff but it’ll come later on.

This is where its at now, some spares are halting the build and the COVID-19 lockdown hasn’t made that any easier so I’ll be updating this as I progress further. Keen to hear any opinions or tips. This is my first rebuild and I’m YouTubing my socks off to make this as successful as possible.

:thumb: Nicely done. You are putting in some great work and attention to detail. Waiting to see the final project complete.
Thanks man, it's been a hell of a journey! Hoping the final result is on point. Just need this damn lockdown to end so I can get those spares and order some stuff from your guys side of the world, we don't have Hinson and Boysen Racing bits readily available :/

Looks like it's going to be a good looker! Are your intentions to ride this bike after the overhaul? -BIG DAN:thumb:
I sure hope she's a looker, certainly is the goal! My intentions are most certainly to ride this bike when I'm done, I don't have another. So it started out as a quick clean and polish and my OCD got the better of me so here I am :smirk:

Insane the luck on this bike :/ The chain slider can't be removed because the screws are seized, have to have that drilled and re-threaded, screw for the plastics that go into the petrol tank also needs to be re-threaded and the screw on the front brakes seized as well. Getting this thing over the line is a mare!

Really nice build you got going. I love my 06.
PB Blaster. Works every time.

Did the shroud bolts come out or did they just spin?
They screwed out but going back in it just spins. Going to leave that little bugger for last. Got other stuff sorted and now have no spark haha, fault finding as we speak so hopefully with that done it should be ready for a ride haha
