Public Law creates opportunity for OHV parks

On March 24, a coalition letter was sent to the state of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bob Martin, requesting expeditious implementation of a new law that could provide responsible motorized recreation opportunities. The request comes after a long state history of limited off-highway vehicle (OHV) riding opportunities. Currently, the state of New Jersey has no public riding areas. This new law, P.L. 2009, c. 275, produces an opportunity for the creation of possibly three new OHV parks. However, this law has a timeframe of three-years so action is needed immediately.

The coalition, comprised of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), New Jersey Off Highway Vehicle Association (NJOHVA), Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) and the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA), has asked the Commissioner to take immediate action. The coalition needs your help to draw attention to this important issue and stress the necessity for OHV parks.

The fastest way to reach the Commissioner is to send a pre-written e-mail to him immediately by following the "Take Action" option and entering your information. The AMA encourages you to personalize your message by drawing on your own riding experiences. Please share this message with friends and family and encourage them to also e-mail the Commissioner.

For more information about how to protect your right to ride, please visit the "Get Involved" section of the AMA's website. For direct access, click here.

The AMA urges you to write Commissioner Martin today and request immediate implementation of P.L. 2009, c. 275 so New Jersey residents can begin legally riding OHVs in the state.
