OK, it's going to be one of those threads.

Let's get this debate going!

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF STEEL CYLINDERS?
WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF NIKASIL COATED CYLINDERS?
WHAT DO YOU PREFER?

I prefer to withhold my thoughts until I have heard all the good stuff!

my cylinder is sleeved, in fact it was sleeved from the factory, on a high revving 125cc 2 stroke dirt bike. Only pro I see of a nikasil'd cylinder is that the piston isn't riding directly against the cylinder wall.

nikasil is much toughter then untreated iron liners. if we didnt have nikasil we would be boring our cylinders every couple piston changes. kind like we did in the old days. nikasil resist wear allowing the use of hardend crome rings

Cylinder bore if 45 bucks on a steel bore locally here.

Plating is 200+ ... And steps up pretty quickly if it needs welding or bridge work.

But how much does a sleeve cost intitialy, and for it to get it pressed in and have the exhaust ports lined up? Theoretically, nikasil should last longer than several bores.

I have quite a lengthy comparison written, but I'll wait a little longer to get some more insight into the thoughts of the people!
