250F New Bike :)

Wait till it grenades, then lets see what the cost is.

Last time I said something along those lines it happened... I said somethin' like "I'm gonna laugh when you have valve problems at like 15 hours" He was man enough to admit that he had valve problems at 16 or 17 hours  :smirk:

I'm rootin for ya Jax!

Love you Sean

Or if you ride it like you stole it...I.E. like Barica. yeah ya'll probably right, neither of you will ever grenade yours :poke:
I'm willing to bet that Barica seldom, if ever, grenades his bike. His mechanic most likely replaces the parts before they get to that point...maintenance... :poke:

I am sure barcia is riding with a new motor every race, my point was riding like him, not his bikes. If you were able to ride like Barcia, you would be getting rebuilt motors every week as well. :thumb: but ride like him and see if you can get over 100 hrs on your motor.

Very true. :thumb: However ride a 2 stroke the same way and you'll be replacing top ends faster then the time it takes you to rebuild a 4 stroke.

Basically riding at that level is expensive no matter what you ride, which is why I just slow down and ride at a C rider level. :smirk:

its why I just put new graphics on once a year and leave it on the stand.... not only do I need to maintain the motor, I just might put a horrible scratch on the front fender... :pout:

Fact of the matter is.... For us spodes, a 4 stroke 250f will last about the same amount of hours as a 250 2stroke on the rebuild schedule, but the 250f will cost at least double to repair/rebuild/maintain. This is just a fact, not a gripe.

depends on if you lose the valves or not, piston kits are about the same price.
now if I had kept running my bike with that valve out of adjustment and it snapped the valve ( which it would have eventually), then yeah, I would be well over the cost of any 2 stroke rebuild.
The biggest componet to expensive 4 stroke rebuilds is operator error and lack of maint.

Yes. from my experience, with crusty trail riders, valves need to be done about every other piston change, and Im not exactly sure on the cam chain. Most* people can not do the labor on the valves, unlike the 2 stroke rebuild, bringing the cost up even higher. All in all my conclusions show that the maintenance is about double in the motor department, but other factors off set that. 2 strokes eat tires faster, need pipe o-rings, and all bikes 2 or 4 stroke need chains, sprockets, bearings etc etc..... Cost of ownership is not significantly different in the long run.

cam chain should be done every piston change.
For the most part, Yamaha's go a very long time on the stock titanium valves, the honda's obviously do not, however with the stainless steel valves, this will likely be the only time I have to change them.

theres really no sense in arguing this, you can argue number all day if you like, I just so happened to decide to ride a bike I feel comfortable on... Guess I might be a little defensive about it for that reason, that and the costs really are exaggerated most of the time, and some people seem to think that they just magically blow up, they blow up for a reason....

I gez ppl dat tpe lyke diz and try to tell me that their friends crf cost 5,000 dollars to rebuild is at the top of the issue
