Manson Family Bike Tour

Other than nice weather, one of the perks of living in Los Angeles is being close to famous places. The old Spahn Ranch location, home of Charlie Manson and family is about 10 minutes from my place. There isn't anything left of the old movie set that the ranch was, but the area has some great scenery and awesome mountain bike trails.

Hills in the distance are the destination

At the lookout, San Fernando Valley below, you know the weather is nice when there is smog/haze in the air

Chatsworth rocks, pictures don't capture the beauty of this area

Abandoned car, perhaps one that the family stole? Auto theft was a main crime for them. I can't figure how it ended up in this location

This is the trail that the car would have had to drive up, no idea how they did it, have to walk the bike through this area its so steep and rocky. Also I realize that the warm weather means time for the buzzworms to be out, eeeek.

The creek that the family used to swim in, a dam downstream made it a lot deeper than it is these days

Poison oak everywhere, I am immune to it and poison ivy. If I am wrong, I am screwed 'cuz I just ride through the stuff

The creek runs through a valley, amazing how green it is down here

This is a clearing between the creek and where the "town" was. There used to be a huge shrine to Charlie and family here. All this land is now owned by a church, I am sure a few years back they cleaned everything up, erasing anything related to the ranch, or family

Trail from the creek / clearing up to where the ranch was, the stories it could tell...

Back in civilization, oh man, that looks good, I could eat 3 of those right now

That's it, hope you enjoyed the tour.

That is not far from where I live and I have never been there. I have hiked some at the Chatsworth rocks, over by the train tunnel. Rode a horse once some in that area also. What a clear day! The valley looks pretty good in those pics. And that trail looks really sweet! It is hard for me to ever look at landscape normal and not picture riding it on my dirt bike. Sort of like a guy picturing a pretty woman naked:lol:
Looks like a very nice ride. Did you stop at In and Out on the way home? How far did you ride? I need to get back on my bicycle. The pedal thrill has been gone for a while now since discovering the throttle. There is no better cross conditioning sport that's for sure! Thanks for sharing your Manson ride. :ride: To be honest....I didnt know what a buzzworm was either:lol: Shouldnt it be a rattleworm? Buzz? that comes after the ride:smirk:

The dirt bike is fun, but for me mountain biking is a very close second, and is good for burning off my excess fat. Plus, no packing, driving, staging, getting up early etc. Just throw some water and protein bars on the bike and ride. No burgers after the ride, went to Los Toros for beers, bean dip and tacos, all the calories I burned off on the ride are already back.....
I always worry about getting bit by a rattler out in the dez, fact is I have a better chance of getting tagged on my mountain bike. Plus I have found that Pacific Coast rattlers have a much worse temper than Mojave's.
I know you have that cool new green bike, but anytime you or that CDA guy want to get a ride in on the pedal powered wheels, let me know.

:thumb: I have not been on that trail in many years. I am getting back on the pedal scooter for the first time since surgery this coming Sat. Going to take my wife on an easy cruise up Sycamore Cyn and then hit Neptune's for lunch. I will be getting back out on a reg basis, so I will hit you up Agent. As for Sun, I am so out of shape, that you will have no problem staying in front of me...

Yeah, right. I'm sure it'll be more like, you'll have no problem staying behind her.

Sorry I took it there, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. :P

Haha:smirk:
I have old bicycles to match my old body. I have a Gary Fischer "Joshua" and believe it or not an "Alpinestars" Mt. bike.
