Dirt Bike Oil Analysis

the newer electronically controlled engines take a little longer :P
our DT466E can roll for about 500 miles before its pitch black, but the old school Cummins 400's, any further than a 5 mile trip and its pitch black again

Haha, My f250 Is basically pitch black as soon as you start it.It holds almost 3 gallon.

with the recent Baja 500
I would love to see some of the oil out of one those bikes tested to put the idea that it needs to be changed every 3 hours thrown out the door. They see tires and air filters for the entirety of the day, same thing for the 1000

My Beta has the separate engine and transmission oil. The longest I've gone was about 18 hours before a change. The engine side oil is just barely dirty and I'm sure that it was still fine. The transmission side not so much due to the goat trails I like and the resulting extensive clutch use. I'm sure that oil was good as well. It just had ground up or smoked clutch bits floating in it.

On my $10k bike I can do a lot of $25 oil changes. My old XR600 that I put 50k miles on didn't get that kind of service.
