Other Current Project: 1996 Honda XR100R

about a week ago I bought a 1996 Honda xr100r for $250! It has a bit of issues that I'm about to list but im bringing it back to great shape so it doesn't end up getting trashed. Smoked white smoke when I first cranked it, but after a while of being cranked it went away. I haven't cranked but a few times when I first got it but I now know the many problems why it blew white smoke... Also it won't idle right now, had loose clutch, very dirty from sitting and not being washed, front and rear brakes don't work, front brake and wheel is locked up, graphics old and look bad. time to get it all fixed!

I started this thread late but I'm going to go ahead and say what all has been done so far. First I cleaned the bike up real good and then took all the plastics off to work on it better. So far I bought a brand new spark plug and a new UNI air filter. I removed the gas tank and took it to get the old gas dumped out (there was lots of bad stuff in there) and cleaned it out real good. Next I scraped off all the old graphics. I also took the exhaust off and put degreaser inside and then sprayed all the carbon out. I also took off the old air filter and all it was, was an old dirty sock wrapped around the metal filter..... That's another hint about how bad this bike was maintained before. I removed the old spark plug which looked liked it hadn't been changed in 10 years. The only good thing on this bike is that it has a new carburetor. The carb has not been adjusted at all though, so it seems they just installed it without adjusting the screws. I'm sure once I adjust it it'll actually idle since the screw is turned all the way out. I'll keep you updated on the progress of it as I go. Shouldn't take too long, just a lot of minor things.

I got a new fuel line from my gas tank to my carburetor. I have no idea why, but for some reason the gas line fits the tank perfectly but it doesn't fit the carburetor. The carb has a smaller end so the gas line just slides on easily and leaves too much room, so now it just leaks when the gas is on. Any suggestions?? I looked everywhere online and have no idea what to do.

Zip tye for temporary. You'll need to buy the smaller hose and just force it onto the larger bib. -BIG DAN:thumb:

Have you checked online to match your (new ) carb to the bike? Wrong size line at carb end would have me think wrong carb no??? What type and model number is your carb?
Can you post pics from your phone?
CMSNL.COM for free microfiche access for your bike with part numbers!
PARTZILLA.COM for cross referencing your part number! Tells you every model your part ( carb in this instance) was fitted to so if your bike isn't on this list it's the wrong carb!
