Fallen Christopher "JANTZ" Grodzicki #96

From what I've gathered is that he severed his brain stem and is in a "locked-in" state.

From Wikipedia:
Locked-in syndrome is a condition in which a patient is aware and awake but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body except for the eyes.

Basically he's alert and aware of his surroundings however due to the brain stem being severed he can't move anything below his eyes. Here's an article on someone that came back from being "locked-in", the difference being that he'd suffered a stroke (not a severed brain stem).

I really think that would be worse than death right there.

Such a tragic loss.

I was thinking the same thing. You're totally aware of your surrounding (sight and hearing), yet the only way you can communicate is via your eyes. And unless they find some way to bypass the severed part of your spinal cord, you'll be in this state until they decide to remove life support. :(

Here's an interesting article:

R.I.P. Jantz. :(

From Lisa [his mom]:

Jantz passed away peacefully today, November 26, 2012 at 12:56pm. He was surrounded by his immediate family and friends. Jantz will be forever remembered as a fierce Motocross competitor and for the warmth, kindness and amazing sense of humor he shared with everyone. Jantz is survived by his loving parents Chris and Lisa and 12 year old sister Jenna Reece.

It's been a real tough two years... Lost a lot of great people, great riders, and amazing friends. I hate this part about this sport. Godspeed Jantz, I'll see again someday. Ride on forever #96
