Nothing wrong with cast pistons.-BIG DAN
Opinions may vary...
depends... Someone like Dan spends alot of time with a micrometer and keeps extremely accurate records of service and tolerances a cast piston is the right or logical choice.... Someone like me that just keeps track of hours and just replaces parts based on their hours will benefit more from a forged piston... I dont recommend cast for anyone average.
no 2nd mortgage hereno questions weather a smoker will blow up. its the fact that if it does granade like that, you don't have to take out a second mortgage to fix it
that guy was running the revs pretty high constantly. think that probably has more to do with it then him using a cast piston.

Vertex pistons are both cast and forged. Vertex casts their two stroke pistons because of the ability to incorporate higher silicon content into castings as opposed to a forging. This gives the piston a lower thermal distortion characteristic and higher wear resistance. Vertex uses castings and forgings in its four stroke pistons depending on application. Low rpm, low performance four stroke engines can use cast pistons. High performance, high rpm engines (like today’s race bikes) use forged pistons for strength. Vertex has the ability to manufacture its pistons to suit each need.
