And then there were four: Team Honda's Trey Canard suffered a fractured femur this week while testing for the upcoming outdoor season, putting an end to the Supercross Championship contender's season.
According to Trey's mother, Kari, Trey was testing with Team Honda at Competitive Edge in Southern California, when he over jumped a jump and went down.
"It's just a small fracture so it's not as bad as first thought," said Kari Canard. "We're going to see his doctor in Oklahoma City tomorrow [Friday] to have it checked again, but Dr. Ryman in California thinks he might be back for Hangtown and for sure by the third round."
With three AMA Supercross victories this season, Canard sits fifth in the AMA Supercross Championship with 255 points - 20 behind series point's leader Ryan Villopoto.
The following is from Honda...
American Honda announced today that Trey Canard will miss the remaining three rounds of the 2011 Supercross Championship after injuring his leg in a practice crash. Canard and the American Honda Racing team were at Competitive Edge MX Park in Hesperia, CA, making preparations for the upcoming Motocross season when the incident happened.
"Trey suffered a non-displaced fracture to his femur when he crashed at a team test," said American Honda Racing Team Manager, Erik Kehoe. "The good news is that the fracture is not as severe as it might have been. We are hopeful Trey's return to racing will come soon. It's very disappointing to see him get hurt, especially after the fantastic Supercross season he's having. In his rookie season he's won three Supercross races and was in the championship points chase with three rounds to go. He will miss the remaining Supercross rounds, so the team will focus on our preparations for the upcoming Motocross series where both Trey and Josh Grant will make their returns to racing."
Can't believe you guys have not posted this yet, or I have not seen it yet somewhere else. This is a total bummer, Canard was doing awesome.
