Anybody around the Hemet area know a AC guy willing to help a brotha out ? My condensor Fan went out. I paid a guy 75.00 for a service call to tell me it's 470.00> I said No thank you. I don't have that much. Anyone have this done before and know what it should cost to replace the fan motor? If I could find the motor I would do it myself I think :thinking:. I have another Appointment tomorrow and that's a 45.00 service charge if I can't Afford it. I can only afford a couple hundred bucks untill payday and it's flippin hot. That's Two weeks out still.
I was Just talking to Rhino Roof the Other day and saying I hope to god my AC don't go down right now as tough as things are at the moment.:foul:

It should not be that hard to replace. That $470 seems pretty steep. A fan motor is nothing special, except for being volt instead of 110 volts. It just needs to fit and to rated for fan duty.

A quick google search came up with www.emotorstore.com as a possible source. They say pull the motor, call them, and read the info on the info plate. I bet you can find one local as well.

James, not too sure what part you need, but if it's the motor you can do it yourself. Other than motor size, most important info you need is shaft rotation, clockwise, or counterclockwise. Do an internet search for fractional horsepower electric motor repair in your area, most shops usually have an exchange service.
My neighbors motor went out on his swamp cooler, he paid 450 bucks to get it fixed. I told him we could have done it for 1/3rd the price if he would have let me know, my first job in the working world was rebuilding fractional horsepower electric motors.
If you wern't so far away, I would do a "service call" for a couple of beers and 2 tacos.........

Thanks Carl and Rick. You know I'm not to sure. The motor works if you jump start it for awhile but once it goes off it won't start again. Could it be just the capcitaor. Where is the Capcitator? Yesterday I jump started the fan and it worked for a little while and stopped with out the thermastat turning it off and wouldn't restart. This morning I couldn't stand it any more and jump started the fan again and it's been running for about 2 hrs now. I'm thinking it might just be the start capcitator. A 4.00 part. Thanks Carl for the link. I tried searching AC units yesterday but found nothing that good.
I think Dude yesterday really tried to stick it to me in the :moon:. Even though he got me for 75.00. I thought it mighta been as easy as a freeon charge.

I've been working on them a lot latey and the moters are around 55.00 bucks might as well change the cap while your there there around 7.00 buck i charge around 350.00 to change that stuff out and would do iy for you for a beer or to as well but you live to far away.

Hey james now that ive had time to think back( gettin old) I picked one up off acacia here in town and bryce and put it in. It didnt work right wrong direction of rotation. I found that out when called Kal Kool on Mon. Good luck. I dont remember name of place in town you know the old thing agian. Check phone book . Good luck.

Took the motor out and was ready to go buy one When a lady at the AC shop asked me if it was the Capcitor. My reply was:noidea:. She says well did You test it. :rolleyes: So we run back home and get that back to her and it test Bad. So it ends up only being the capicitor. A 50.00 part which seems like alot when you see them on the internet for 25.00 for the one I need but the bussiness needs to make some money I suppose and she saved me buying a 170.00 dollor motor.:thumb:

So that means dude On Saturday really tried to shaft me. I told him when he was out he never checked the capicitor and he got all huffy and said he did.:moon: I have a mind to call him up and tell him what a douche he his and he shouldn't cash my check cause he got caught trying to scam me but it's not worth the time.

Report him/them to the http://www.la.bbb.org/Home.aspx or www.cslb.ca.gov if he is a licensed contractor.

I saw this thread and about fell over. You guys will not believe this. THE SAME FUCKING THING HAPPENED TO ME TONIGHT ABOUT 3 HOURS AGO.:foul::foul::foul: Although my AC works for a little while, the condensor fan is dead, so it overheats and trips the breaker. The fan is not binding and spins freely. I have been searching for an hour or more on the net tonight.

Hey, save your self some trouble and money. Check or have the capcitor checked first or before you pull the fan motor,(some Girl behind a desk did it for me :blush: )Takes like 2 minutes to get it out. PBK says you should make sure the capcitor is discharged.:eek: Rock on.

Well glad it worked and that I could help in some way. Stay cool. Next you need the whole house fan. Save some money on the cool nights got mine on right now.

Yea don't shock yourself :mad: dicharge it with a screwdriver like you would start a older car buy crossing the prongs on an old starter solenoidAfter You Pull The Disconect:thumb: A lot of people die every year from elctric shock so make shure you know what you doing and After You Pull The Disconect And if you need help ask TWS cuz he is a pro now:thumb:
