Kurt Caselli Wins Again!

Stage 11 in Dakar To Californian
Red Bull KTM's Kurt Caselli captured his second stage win of this year's Dakar Rally today, the Dakar rookie taking charge in the 118-mile special stage and holding off the rest of the motorcycle field in the sand dunes of Argentina to arrive in Fiambala with the stage 11 victory.
Caselli ended up besting Husqvarna Rallye Team By Speedbrain's Paulo Goncalves by four minutes and 45 seconds after completing today's stage in two hours and 55 minutes.
Caselli's Red Bull KTM teammate Cyril Despres ended up third in today's stage, the Frenchman finishing some six and a half minutes behind the Californian. AMV Red Bull KTM's Juan Pedrero finished fourth today with Francisco "Chaleco" Lopez rounding out the top five.
In the overall standings, Despres now leads his teammate Ruben Faria by over 13 minutes with Lopez third overall - 18 minutes and eight seconds behind the defending race champion and four-time Dakar winner after 11 stages.
Caselli is listed in 19th overall after the 11th stage, but not all the riders have made it to the finish yet so he may drop down the standings. Caselli's fellow Californian Johnny Campbell has yet to finish today's stage.
 Seems to be getting the hang of this Rally thing....

Yeah, this is good news, I don't think his name was even mentioned on yesterdays Dakar coverage (on TV)...

If you want to get an idea of just how fast Caselli is on a dirt bike. Go watch Moto 4 the movie :prof: talk about WFO in the open desert :panic:

I have that movie. Watched it last week. Kurt is one fast rider. Reminded me of the good riding out in Lucerne.

Kurt's fast in the desert, but at least in my mind the most impressive thing is he is good at everything he does, ISDE, Baja, Worcs, he even ran an AMA national, and now winning stages in Dakar

Yamaha And Verhoeven Win Dakar Stage 12

Dutchman Leads Yamaha Attack
Four different manufacturers made up the top four in today's stage 12 of the Dakar Rally, a stage that featured almost 200 miles of timed special sections on the run from Fiambola to Copiapo in Northern Chile. The winning brand was Yamaha with Dutchman Frans Verhoevenriding his YZ450F to his first stage win of this year's race and the fourth of his Dakar career.
Verhoeven topped Red Bull KTM's Ruben Faria by one minute and 38 seconds in the stage that took the field through the Andes Mountains from east to west before heading into the Atacama desert. Third place went to Joan Barreda on the Husqvarna By Speedbrain Husky 450RR with the Sherco 450 SR of Alain Duclos finishing fourth. It was Duclos' best finish of this year's Dakar.
American Kurt Caselli finished 18th in today's stage - just one day after winning stage 11, his second stage win of his Dakar debut.
Today's stage looked like it was going to be won by Barreda with the Spanish rider seemingly set on winning his fifth stage. But the Husky rider got lost while leading at the 201 km mark, allowing first Faria and ultimately Verhoeven to take over at the front.
In the overall standings it's still Red Bull KTM's Cyril Despres leading the way, the Frenchman five minutes and 39 seconds ahead of his teammate Faria with Franciso "Chaleco" Lopez in third place - 13 minutes and 40 seconds behind Despres.
Caselli is 22nd overall after 12 stages of the rally.

Lopez Wins Stage, Gains On Despres In Dakar

Francisco Lopez Back In The Hunt

Red Bull KTM's Kurt Caselli looked to be on the verge of his third stage win of this year'sDakar Rally when he came to a screeching halt at the 396 km mark of today's 13th stage, the Californian apparently suffering some sort of engine problem.
Caselli's woes in what will be an unlucky stage 13 for the Dakar rookie allowed Francisco Lopez to ride to victory, the Chilean rider using the stage victory to vault himself into second place in the overall standings. And the rally is far from over as Lopez now trails overall leader Cyril Despres by eight minutes and 15 seconds.
Despres finished second in today's stage, but he lost almost five and a half minutes to Lopez in the run from Copiapo to La Serena - a stage that consisted of 273 miles of specials. The stage win was the fourth of this year's Dakar for Lopez.
Husqvarna Rally Team by Speedbrain's Paulo Goncalves ended up third in today's stage, some five and a half minutes behind Lopez and just four seconds behind Despres. AMV Red Bull KTM's Juan Pedrero ended up fourth today with Husky's Joan Barreda.
Despres' teammate Ruben Faria ended up 12th today, a result that dropped him from second to third in the overall standings. He's now over 14 minutes behind the overall leader.
Honda's Johnny Campbell finished 32nd in today's stage, the Californian riding with broken ribs. Caselli has yet to finish today's stage.
Another having a mechanical problem today was Sherco's Alain Duclos, the man who finished fourth in yesterday's stage. The Frenchman was stopped at the 341km mark with mechanical problems with his Sherco 450 SR.

 Broken Ribs on Campbell. Not sure what happened there.
Caselli may be out of the Rally depending on what the bike issues are. :(
